Interestingly enough, it's not entirely random, as 0 and 1 will show up more often than 2-5. So if you want better chances, set the condition to one of those latter numbers. The reason is that 32767%6 is 1. Hard to explain concisely, actually. Since 32766/6 == 5671, that means that 2, 3, 4, and 5 have a 5671/32768 chance of appearing, whereas 0 and 1 have a 5672/32768 chance of appearing.

So rm -rf is basicaly del *.*
And rm is remove, while rf is remove by force?

In the most basic terms, its russian roulette. It generates a random number between 0 and 6, if the number is 0, it removes all the files on the system - if not, it prints "Lucky boy"

I get that much, I'm just not that informed on Linux so the code itself wasn't familiar.

Possibly a little confusing is that they're using logic short-circuiting in lieu of a normal if/else -

The [ $[ $RANDOM % 6 ] == 0 ] is evaluated first

if false, the second half of the && statement doesn't matter because the result will always be false (so the rm doesn't get evaluated/executed). However, the second half of the || statement determines the overall boolean value so it does get executed.

if true, the second half of the && does matter so it gets executed. However, the second half of the || doesn't, so it doesn't.

(bash commands generally return 0 if there was no error, which gets evaluated as false in a boolean expression)

The command works as "rm -r" aswell, but it isn't forced. Meaning, if there is an issue with deleting a file, it will either ask you or error out. The f makes it automatically chose to delete all files it comes across. -rf is more of a combined command.

I had a feeling I was eventually going to have to replace the engine. I was thinking It would be fixed once I put in a new pcv valve, but now that you mentioned "honeycomb" I remember a mechanic saying something about a honeycomb falling part and that I need to replace the exhaust system. Fuuuuuck this is going to be expensive lol.

Grew up in BC, and my school only ever sang the anthem (standing was considered polite, singing was optional) at assemblies. We never sang it in class.

On the other hand, my friend who went to another elementary school (rural) told me she had to sing it everyday and at assemblies they sang God Save the Queen.

I think it's a regional thing, I think.

thumbing down every single upload to newest uploads doesn't improve you chances of having your ****** ass content make it to the front page.

It just makes you look like a butthurt faggot.

And don't even try to lie and say you didn't, the moment the newest uploads from earlier today were an hour old, you were listed as having thumbed down every single one.

Fantastic that you noticed.

I simply went through each of the newest uploads, one by one, and thumbed down every one that:
1: I saw earlier that day
2: I saw earlier that week
3: Did not make any sense
4: Was not funny
5: Was an obvious "This shouldn't make it to the front page, but hey...I'm just going to leave it here because I've seen similar random posts make it to #1"
6: I saw earlier that day
7: Was a boring screenclip of an anime show
8: Was an uninteresting YouTube video
9: Was an unfunny screencap of a game
10: I saw earlier that day.

Also, if you'd pay attention, I haven't actually uploaded anything to this website since October of 2012. I just comment from time-to-time, and go through the highest rated (and newest uploaded when I run out) and thumb accordingly.

Or...perhaps I should do it anonymously, like yourself.
