Maybe I'm just cynical but wouldn't "encouraging people to keep shit level jobs" be a good thing for hard working people?
If we keep the minimum wage low everyone will have to work hard and acquire high skill levels just to make ends meat. That means when you finally get that high skilled job you worked so hard for you are paid and treated like crap. Why? it's all because there's a bunch of people just like you how can replace you even though you worked your butt off to get that job.
If we raise the minimum wage and for some reason people do act like you think they will and become content with their low skill job. You will find when you apply for the same job from the first example you are now paid well and treated well. People who worked hard and have real skills are now hard to come by for businesses. They have no choice but to compete over the limited people who do have the necessary skills to do those jobs.

Potentially, it hasn't happened for a long enough period for anyone to truly know what would happen.
I have read that businessmen have been asking workers to cut their hours in order to save money because minimum wage is too high. So, rich fucks will do everything to stay rich fucks. The only way to truly change that would be to forcefully take their money and distribute it evenly among people or something, which is pretty much communism. Which doesn't actually work.
So who knows what's gonna happen. Unless people in general become less greedy and shitty, no matter what laws or whatever we do someone will find a loop hole and some people will get fucked over. The new way of life.

That's not what minimum wage is supposed to be. Not everyone can get jobs that are above minimum wage, because the jobs that exist above that line are limited, and some adults with families to support will have to take minimum wage jobs no matter what. Minimum wage was intended to make it so that someone working a minimum wage job could support a small family on a regular work week.

I agree with that. I was about to say i believe current minimum wage could support a small family, if they spent their money wisely.
But after doing some number crunching, roughly based off federal minimum wage, a single full time employee would take home about $1100 a month after taxes. Which would be a difficult amount of money for a single person to live off of, but if two were to work full time it could work, even with a small family, 1-2 kids, though difficult.
To keep this short(ish) There are places out there which offer housing for low-income families, and most jobs promote yearly, even if it is only 25 cents, and also most retail companies like to promote from within.
