Where does it say that? Considering that the author himself endorsed the movie, I'm not convinced it's a joke. Also considering that the author himself is a crazy bible thumping whackjob.

Personally much interpretation was that the movie wasn't intended to be satire. But ended up more as implicit satire since the original material is really, truly "that" far out there. If anything the movie is pretty mild compared to the comic.

A lot of the actors are also in a D&D themed comedy movie about how a guy is using his campaign to inspire his writing. It's meant to mock it, however "faithful" to the comic that it was

Apparently the movie was made by a group who specialize in D&D parodies.
So yeah, I'd say satire.

Not much is known about its intentions, but it premiered at Gen Con, which is a gaming convention for pen and paper rpgs and the like. All that wikipedia has to say is that "most critics interpret the film as satire."

So who knows. I choose to find it funny because, like bible thumping whackjobs, it is funny.
