important is subjective. if you don't think you need that insight to be happy then so be it. if you don't want them in your life then they don't have to be in your life.

That's cute.

No one has to forgive someone because another person has. The fact that msamnesia had a shittastic mother is reason enough to not forgive her for being a shitty mom.

Also, genetics make up the more physical aspects of your person. Not sure why you keep saying 'insights' into what'll happen to you, the only insights you can gain from genetics are what traits, positive and negative you have on that side of the family. Your upbringing will effect your personality more, and from the sound of it they got over having a craptastic mom and had a better relationship with the other parent, and with her step-mom.

you very much so inherit personality from your parents. it's bits and pieces here and there that make you up, also depending on your sex.
even twin studies show they're far more similar on average than most people, I've known twins and couldn't tell them apart at all

You inherit approximately 40% of your personality from your GENETICS. However, this leaves a shitton of personality that you gradually accumulate while you grow up, and a majority of the personality you will get is dependent on environmental factors.

alright look, i got a more concrete example.

The prosecutor's job is to represent the people's interests, while the victim's interests are represented by themselves. In most european models, even if the victim lets bygones be bygones, the prosecutor can still act on it as they represent society at large. Even if the victim never made a complaint in the first place. Because the prosecutor has personal and professional responsibility to decide by themselves if he wants to pursue or not. What I'm trying to say is your conscience isn't bound by others'.
