Which to me seems unfitting for Thor to be allowing Shield to hold onto Loki. He came in wanting to capture Loki from the Avengers team. When they had him in the helicarrier, Loki escaped from Shield using his trickery. For Thor to trust them again, it would mean risking doing the entire thing all over again, with Loki possibly getting away.

However, I am not a huge Marvel fan, I haven't seen the movie more than once because to me it was meh. My feelings towards the scene are still the same, as to me the apparent joke of them eating fell flat. On top of that, there is still the people putting as much hidden meaning into the scene itself that it just causes more disgust.

the whole movie was about these heroes to act as a team, which means to trust each other and be able to rely on each other, so for Thor to trust shield is pretty much what he would do at the end of the movie

A lot of the scenes are up for dispute about the final battle, whether the owners were there, and when thor took loki back. Though it is up to us, the viewers, to figure out the timeline, you have to admit that it is creating holes for them to stay in character. Thor wouldn't let Loki just lay there in the Stark tower after getting Hulked on, because otherwise that would just create another Loki film about tracking him down. This means 1 of two things, either Thor left right away, or left Loki in a containment cell, something that he had already gotten away from but before stating that it was a helicarrier that held him, Thor has little knowledge on what had happened in that carrier . If we state that Shield had Loki while Thor ate, this would be breaking Thor's character. If Thor had taken Loki away, the eating scene would be looking completely different, as they wouldn't be looking as though they had just gotten out of the battle.

Marvels The Avengers Ending Scene
Well, there's no where else for Loki to go than human made containment because canonically they haven't returned to Asgard yet. Whether or not Thor trusts human jailing is a completely invalid argument.

If you think he arrested Loki directly after the fight, then you're saying that he arrested him, then returned to eat while bringing Loki back to earth, then took Loki back to Asgard.

The only logical solution is that Loki was held by Shield during the Shawarma scene.

You say it is impossible, yet they apparently do it in Avengers 1 and 2, the second being with a bunch of robots attacking people on a city that is flying into the air well, they save all but 1 person.

Starks clothes are most likely the ones he had on underneath the suit, while Banner would be willing to wear anything since post-hulking out would render him naked since the pants would have stretched that much that they would fall off. The fact that Shield was unable to keep ahold of Loki in the first place would also be reason enough for Thor not to trust them with holding him again.

Plus with the way Thor wanted to handle Loki in the beginning, it would be evident that he would rather return him himself as he is the only one who can truly detain him properly.

They didn't evacuate the city in Avengers.
Captain America tells the NY police to hole up the civilians inside "basements and the subway" because the aliens are razing the streets. During the battle the civilians stayed inside the buildings which explains why the restaurant employees are still there.
In Age of Ultron, they began to evacuate the city before it was raised into the sky, plus the robots didn't exist just to kill civilians, they existed to protect the plan and from the Avengers.
Also, you can't dispute that Thor arrested Loki after getting shawarma because the scene exists whereas a hypothetical scene where Thor returns with Loki to Asgard before getting shawarma does not exist.

It was a well executed gag. Thus, people reacted well to it.
It's impossible to evacuate a city with 8 million people while there are aliens in the streets, so the restaurant owners likely stayed within or close to the restaurant. Both Stark and Banner are wearing casual clothes while the other four who are all soldiers are comfortable in their uniforms.
Loki was incapacitated by the Hulk and presumably detained by shield after the battle. He was taken back to Asgard by Thor in the ending scene. also in the Thor movie it's already established that Odin doesn't want either of his sons dead no matter how problematic they are.
