Hear me out here, I agree that the 75% thing is 100% fucked up. They really shouldn't be taking a penny. The mod community, even when free, brings them benefits by increasing the "life" of their game (As in how long it's relevant for), and can even promote a lot of people who got the game on console to buy it a second time on PC (I owned Skyrim and Fallout 3 both on console and repurchased them on the PC).
But honestly, I have played mods that are honestly worth paying for. There are mods were assembled by teams of people with literally thousands of hours put into it, who aren't making a penny. I have trouble agreeing with the people who are saying "No, the modders shouldn't be allowed to sell anything" when I've followed the development of mods that took over a year to make. For example, this screenshot is from a Fallout 3 mod that was basically a fan made mass effect game. The person spent over 2 years on this mod and never finished it. It looked awesome. And I honestly feel that if people were allowed to charge a fee, it could attract a lot more quality work. A few rare people are already making DLC sized mods for free, imagine the content that you'd get if there were a monetary incentive? Perhaps that mod I just mentioned would have been finished if the maker was able to get a few bucks.
But they couldn't have done things any more wrong. In my personal opinion, they should have allowed mods to be monetized, but only by certain people. The site Nexus Mods doesn't even allow people to take donations until the maker has gotten 1,000+ downloads. I feel that a system like that for monetizing mods could have been a good thing. And they shouldn't have taken any money.
Also don't forget mods are laughably easy to torrent. Anything worth downloading would be put on a torrent site right away and would just require dragging and dropping to add it to your game.
