Hmmm..... Looks like we just solved a political problem for America, if only the congress could see, or agree on somthing.

I did not think i could ever talk with someone pro gun, who did not annoy me because they came with so many incomplete and rather dum argumenst.

But it have been pleasent discussing this with you since you have great suggestions on how to make everybody a little more safe.

That could be great.
I am not that much into the gun policy in the US, but if a person have been convicted for a crime or are mentally sick this person cannot own a gun if i remember right.

This is a great law, but how could the background check be more strict?

.... Sry for the many questions by the way, im just curious.

P.S I was suprised how ineffecient the backgrounds checks are. Read part 5

Yeah, making background checks actually work might be nice. Incomplete information should lead to the purchaser being unable to complete the transaction.

As for making them more strict, we could crack down more on who is and is not able to buy guns by setting actual limits, and obviously fixing the glaring flaw you already pointed out.

I agree banning certain weapon will gain nothing.
But how about a more strict background check, drivers licence to guns or set a higher price on the guns.
(not judging any people here by the price, but statistics says that poor people are more likely to tend to crime than the middle class.)
#26 - hawaiikid (04/10/2014) [-]
Im in favor of the more strict background check. Wed have to figure out some things for private shows (and craigslist for example) but i think that would be a pretty good step.

That, combined with some laws regarding the storage of guns, and wed probably be set. If shits gotta be locked up, its harder for someone else to get it.

More people dying from pistols only brings about the idea to ban pistols as well.

If the goal of a national or state government is to lower deaths by firearm (we'll hit back on this later), then making a law against killing with firearms is only a half measure. Making the guns themselves illegal would be a full measure.

Now we can move from that generality to a specific. A main argument for gun freedom is defense. But the only thing a gun is necessary to defend against is another gun.

Now more specific. You might say criminals don't follow the law, they use illegal guns. Yes this is true. But where do they get illegal guns? A drug operation might use guns smuggled in from another country to commit crimes, as they are high tier criminals - but the thing about drug dealers is they usually just shoot each other or cops, and police officers would be armed in either case.
As for a civilian getting shot, is that really going to be by a smuggled gun? Or is it more likely stolen or bought from a less-strict state (my state has no gun registry and you can sell guns at a yard sale)? Most of the criminals who are shooting civilians aren't likely using smuggled guns, those would be too expensive for a low tier criminal who is mugging people or holding up stores.

Now of course I have to address every gun-nut's wet dream, a government encroachment upon the people. In America, the concept of freedom is so ingrained in society that it's unlikely that the military (most freedom-centric citizens) would follow orders to oppress their own citizens.
But for the sake of argument, let's say that did happen. Full on Red Dawn scenario. While Red dawn was a bit exhaggerated and ridiculous, it doesn't exactly express an unrealistic outcome of the scenario. It had a happy ending. No matter the difference in firepower, the people will always outnumber the oppressors. And given enough time - owned guns or not (they'd be confiscated immediately), the people will win.

(there's more, wait)
User avatar #33 - demandsgayversion (04/10/2014) [-]
I lied, there wasn't more. I ran out of room and wasn't sure if I had more.

And if you skipped to the end here, go back and read it all. No tldr on this one.
#23 - godfatherfj (04/10/2014) [-]
As a non American i see your point of view. And i agree the majority who can figure out how to use gun in a legal way should not be punished because of some idiots.

But there are alot of assaults with guns. Banning all guns is not fair for people like you who can handle it. But how should this problems with armed assaults be threated to reduced to a minimum then?
#24 - hawaiikid (04/10/2014) [-]
Im not really sure. Thats something that needs to be worked out. Banning the wrong kind of weapon isnt going to help, and i cant see how its better than nothing. But i also cant think of a way that IS better than nothing.
User avatar #25 - godfatherfj (04/10/2014) [-]
