There's a little switch like in the great artistic depiction to the left. Basically, you push it to run and wait for a little for the glow plugs to warm up as it uses a diesel engine, then you push it over to start until the engine kicks over completely. Done, you started an HMMWV and can now drive it.

Thanks for actually giving me an detailed explanation instead of treating me like an idiot like that other guy did.

It's all good, brother. If you ever want to learn more about military vehicles and weapon systems just google (vehicle/weapon system) TM or FM. They're openly available to the civilian populace and you can likely score a job on a Military installation. In any case, I get how you feel, the military is pretty alien to people who aren't in, we use a fuckton of acronyms and weird shit that seems second nature to us but confuses everybody else, even when you go through BCt you still have some learning to do because they don't teach a lot of that stuff in basic. Shit, I could even teach you how to operate a Stryker ICV. It's easy so long as you don't have somebody telling you how to do it by the book using the technical terminology. For example, would you understand it if somebody said to "turn on the auxiliary power source" as opposed to "see that thing right there? yeah, make it horizontal." that's how I learned everything, going hands on, and I'm still pretty new.

Pic related, the inside of a Stryker. Shit looks complicated as fuck and I don't even know what half those switches do. And there's even more controls and levers and shit that's not in the picture.

Wow, that comment was a rambling mess. The job on an installation thing, if you end up looking for work with military vehicles like repairing them and such, it helps to have a lot of that knowledge beforehand.

An actual picture of the ignition and light controls.

How the fuck do you prevent them from getting stolen if it's that easy?

The same people that steal any other vehicle? It seems like a burden always having to keep it under constant watch. It's all cocky fun until someone steals your humvee and then you realize THEY have the military vehicle now.
User avatar
#148 - burdenedsoul (02/16/2015) [-]
you should always keep military vehicles under watch anyway, whether they lock or not

and besides, if someone is going to be ballsy enough to steal one, they'd find a way to get into it whether it needs keys or not

Why, exactly, should the ability to comment on Youtube videos still exist?
