the biggest problem I have is either shit is randomly generated and it doesn't explain the initial question because either the simulation would generate life where it 'should' generate life according to our calculations, or it's prefab in which case our data should be more randomized and the patterns of development that we used to form such equations in the first place should be less precise.
Either way it doesn't explain why we haven't run into other aliens yet when calculations say we should have.
It's not that I think the notion of the universe being a simulated is preposterous, just that I think the notion of the universe being a simulated universe as an explanation for a lack of alien encounters is preposterous.
Much more likely the math is just bad and either 'life is extremely rare' because there's some condition necessary for the development of sentient life we don't of, or 'the universe is to vast' and the space between shit is more intense than we previously thought.
Plus if anything, being in a 'simulated' universe just means that life should be MORE common if anything, why waste all the processing power to create all those different planets and only make one inhabited? that would be like making a minecraft world and having it generate out a shit load of chunks in all directions just to restrain all the players to a relatively small central area.
