d20 means a 20 sided dice. d6 is your traditional white 6 sides. So 5d6 means you roll five 6-sided die. So you can land anywhere from 6 to 30.

Don't know about the websites, I was taught by a DM

Alright, that's one thing I didn't know. What about making a character? Like sheets and stuff.

Also, I never used the miniatures or maps, I just used my imagination.

He's gonna try to sell you all the books, but I bet you can find that information for free, somewhere.

You'll have to pick your class and your specs. Ranger? Melee or Archer? Mage? Divine or arcane?

Then you roll your stats, add your stat bonus.

Do note that D&D is not the only tabletop/D&D thing there is. Though, things like WH40k will cost hella money, as far as I know. Or you could make one. I still wanna make a halo one with the megabloks figures, but I keep disassembling the vehicles and don't have a table big enough. /rant

If that's the gargoyle I'm thinking of, my friend dove into it. I wouldn't let him make a new sheet.

You're gonna need a monster manual It will tell you what each monster is capable of, and how to roll their stats. , a set of die, you can draw up or print off your own character sheets with a google search. The other things can be found in most comic book/gamer stores that sell cards.

Once I figured out the basics with my buddies, we just played some Homebrew shit.

We started a space campaign, we even did a "War of the Divine" some heaven vs hell story. I fought death and won his Scythe, it did 5d6 damage to the foe, and 1d12 to the wielder.

I've seen a website, Roll20 or something another, and I was interested in that, in the way of saving some monies (I'm poor) and I was wondering if you knew anything about that?

When I played trombone waaay back in middle school I was no taller than 4'6''

Nice name, reminds me of good memories.. And I had a similar problem, where I would hit the slide on my foot, or the back of the chair of the person in front of me. Director was about good posture, and that meant looking damn near vertically in front of you.
