Not so much. When we are talking about Rangers here we're talking about the three battalions that make up the 75th Ranger Regiment. Every Ranger Battalion is trained and capable of accomplishing the same tasks. Like gunnyjoe said, both Rangers and Special Forces fall under the SOF (Special Operations Forces) umbrella, but Rangers are not Special Forces. Inversely, Special Forces are not Rangers. They have two completely different missions, and they have completely different training and standards to reflect their unique mission mandates.
When you think of Rangers think bad ass mother fuckers that you point in the general direction of something you want annihilated and they get it done. They are the worlds premier light infantry and raid force. When you think Special Forces think guys that are trained to work behind enemy lines without the need of conventional logistics to support them. They like to build and train armies from scratch using the local populace as their recruiting pool.

Well hang on a second. Everything you said is correct but the ranger do have an SF-like unit within the regiment's special troops battalion. They are the Ranger Reconnaissance Company. These guys are made up of seasoned Rangers, so on top of all the training and experience Rangers get, they also go under and intensive 3 week long selection and a 7 month long reconnaissance training program where they learn how to do stalks, operate behind enemy lines for an extended period of time, and maintain radios and other communication alongside a myriad of other things. Their mission is basically to go to wherever the regiment is set to go, but beforehand to scope it out. They have mission as well such as the emplacement of tactical equipment but to reiterate, their main mission set is to be forward observers for the 75th.

Hey if you have the right stuff(and all other factors being in your favor) after your contract is up you could use your GI Bill and go to college, then try Commissioning. If you really want to, but then again I did hear from a friend that those who Enlist with the desire to Commission tend to get demotivated towards becoming and officer.
