"Heres a sandwich. Hope it gets you of the street!"

Nothing you can give a homeless person apart from a home will get them off the street. No amount of time, soup, sandwiches, hot coffee or change will alter that.

The majority of the time a homeless person has to do it for themselves, or never be able to do it.

So a little fucking change so they can go buy some food and actually feel like a productive member of society, rather than receiving free food like an invalid, is ok in my book.

You know that's not what I was suggesting. Like I said, food and a chat will help in the here and now. Time and money to a charity will help in the long term. Cash in hand is too easily spent and not always on what someone needs.

Agreeing with both of you in some ways

A homeless person won't get a dollar from you and then turn their life around, but at the same time they have needs that nee dot be met so they can keep on living in say way shape or form.

The ideal thing to do is to provide a place where an individual can receive some way to better themselves, like learning a job skill or craft, and also receive living essentials such as food, clothing, shelter, etc.

These programs often fail though due to lack of funding, public apathy, the mental instability of the individuals, unlivable shelter conditions, or shame in receiving the help.

The homeless care programs need a revamping and public help, but it is at the bottom of the list on the political agenda
