Well I'm not even addressing the confederate flag in this thread, and you originally tried to argue that because the US is "one nation" the state government somehow belongs to the federal government and that only the US flag should be flown, which is patently false.

The guy said that he only wanted to see US flags on government property, I said that only having the US flag on state government property is pretty much shitting on the state government.

I'm guessing you're not going to apologize for being blatantly wrong and acting like a douchebag.

I'm arguing over specifically the confederate flag. A state flag =/= the confederate flag. Comment OP is wrong, but that still doesn't mean the confederate flag should be hung above a government building.

I'm guessing you're not from the US, or you just went to a really ghetto public school because this is like 4th grade social studies stuff.

The USA has three tiers of government.
Federal-National, covering all states
State government-covering just that state
Local government-covering just a town or a municipality

The federal government is represented by the US flag. The state government is represented by the State flag. Local governments may or may not have flags depending on the government.

On state government territory they can hang other flags besides the federal flag.

You're welcome.
User avatar #165 - letting (07/05/2015) [-]
"state government territory" is not a thing, because it is still under the jurisdiction of the federal government. Like it or not, they can tell the states to do just about anything, unless explicitly stated that those rights were reserved for the state. I don't remember seeing anything about "they can fly their own flag no matter what it is" in the constitution.
#169 - youregaylol (07/05/2015) [-]
You dont see gay marriage in the constitution but that exists. The constitution clearly states that any powers not granted to the federal government are reserved to the states, so no, there is something called state government territory and there is something called federal territory.

This is a fact. You really, really need to brush up on your US government.
User avatar #159 - gorillabutts (07/05/2015) [-]
There's a difference between a state flag and a piece of history that is irrelevant in a modern context. Might as well just hang Washington's undies over a building as it'll have the same meaning.

New Yorkers shouldn't be dictating what Arkansas does with their state buildings dickweed.
User avatar #214 - gorillabutts (07/05/2015) [-]
Lol and neither should some anon on the internet. The federal government, however, should have that power, as only a state flag and nation flag should be flying above the building.

"lol, someone doesn't know how the usa works"

Hmm, you're right, it's like they're all United States of America, all under one government. It's like they're one country!
