There's really not a lot about me. I'm mostly just a guy that rarely comments.

It may have been old or wounded and taken to scavenging camp sites (or at least seen yours as an opportunity). Even if not paranormal that's scary as fuck. People seem to forget that many of our myths were created to explain our fear of things in the dark that can and did kill us. We're so familiar and overexposed to big cats that we don't seem to properly realize they're some of the scariest fuckers on the planet. Can you imagine being lost in a jungle at night and seeing a faint green glint from the eyes of a Jaguar just beyond the underbrush as your flashlight dies? Three-hundred pounds of muscle propelling thumb-sized teeth and claws at you controlled by a highly intelligent animal that wouldn't even be alive to encounter you unless it was near perfect at stalking and killing prey faster and more alert than you...Oi.

Huh. Oh another thing. The big guy you see in the pic he's like 7 feet and buff as shit under the jacket It's his land and he's native american. I don't know what he said it was but I suggested skinwalker or windigo as a joke. He didn't take it too much as a joke. Whatever it was, be it lion or spirit, it got hurt pretty bad. Fairly sure it's dead.

Could have been a skin-walker poorly imitating a mountain lion...

I've heard they do some pretty piss poor jobs at imitating. I might have yelled out tempting fate for skinwalker to come find us but it was really hinged on those not being real. My native American friend was not impressed with me and told me not to do that. Might have caused problems for us now that I think about it.

Has to do with not really understanding what they're imitating--why it looks the way it does or does what it does--and just mimicking the general form and a few mannerisms gleaned from a passing encounter. That leads to strange inconsistencies in appearance and unsettling, odd movements, actions, and sounds.

Does anyone have theories about what they are? I feel like the term "skin-walker" is used differently online than what I'm familiar with from from folklore, like instead of a witch or witch doctor that can shapeshift, they're something else entirely and completely inhuman, possibly even unearthly.

See I asked my native american friend and he said he knew some and they just want dark power but he was all evasive. Like you see in those stupid horror movies. He just flat out refused to answer me. I respected his wish to not elaborate but I did want to know more yet I try to remain skeptical.

I'm not saying it was or wasn't, just trying to find an answer. There can be variations in individuals, so some tracks may look different. Keep in mind the cougars you see near people in videos and pictures are usually young and not fully grown, so the species is generally perceived as smaller than it actually is the same thing happens with chimps . They can be about 6 feet long, 3 feet tall and over 200 pounds if it is a large male. Some individuals like the one pictured may be even larger.
