this is what im saying is stupid
you cant have rules in music, you can have rules in a type of music but theres all kinds of different music and these rules that help in certain cases just hold you back in others
i mean how do you think music started? its a lot of experimenting and innovation

there are no rules to what makes a good song and if there was the perfect song that can be loved by everyone wouldve been made a long time ago
and even if there are rules just blindly following them just stifles the music industry and stops basically all innovation
so no, music is what you hear and everyone reacts to it differently
its subjective, no one feels the same about a song as someone else does and looking down on music styles cause you think theyre stupid is just being elitist
just cause things that are more complex sound better to you dont make them objectively better
User avatar #209 - gitanisme (11/26/2014) [-]
There's no perfect song, but there are rules in music as there are in language, so everybody can understand it perfectly.
It's not about blindly following them, it's about KNOWING them. And a lot of the nowadays "artists" don't know shit about them.
Hell, they even think they're actual musicians or something because they made some shit on soundcloud with their MacBook. That's like thinking you're an actual writer because you've written a MLP fanfiction on deviantart.

saying that mainstream music is worse than classic because its not as complex is being elitist
calling new music uncultured also shows youre insecure
just listen to what you like and let others do the same
User avatar #101 - gitanisme (11/25/2014) [-]
Mate. We're talking about music. There are rules, like in language. You learn them and respect them and once you've aquired everything, make your own if you wish.
However, a lot of the shit you hear on the radio completely ignores these rules.
It's not being elitist, it's just for the sake of music itself. It's like I was asking you to write properly.

Basically :

jiqzofi jq oqifjqzo ifjqzof if qzfhçfqfèz qzhfuqhf qh s o qzuhqfziu qçèsf isqf iojs èt_éuf -> this is language not respecting the rules without knowing them

Can't give you an example of fucking up the rules in language with knowing them in English literature, but might as well give an example : Hernani by Victor Hugo.
He's not respecting the theater rules. But at least, he does it well.

not trying to glorify nicki minaj, im saying the music taste is subjective
you dont control what you like and by being a music elitist youre only showing that you are insecure

>basic and extremely famous classical music

If knowing about the 1812 overture is being a music elitist, you just frequent too many uncultured people.
