obesity was seen as a sign of prosperity in many cultures.

even cleopatra was fat.

first time im hearing that cleopatra was fat
#109 - silverhellion (07/25/2014) [-]
not a common fact considering the 1960's version of cleoptatra.

ever since then cleopatra has been measured by todays standard of beauty, which would be confusing.

yeah but theres a difference between fat and landwhale, my wife would be considered fat, but she isnt disgusting.

Basically just little things you say or do that upset them. Given that a lot of the tumblr population claims to have PTSD from internet bullying, it'd basically be like insulting them and they have a full blown panic attack.
User avatar
#175 - muddyman (07/22/2014) [-]
Basically. Take for example a war veteran who has PTSD and is "triggered" by fireworks say on the 4th of July or 5th of November he will then get flashbacks or something similar to what he experienced in the war. Fireworks would "trigger" a war veteran suffering from PTSD and cause him to freak out and lose his shit. So on Tumblr, everyone "suffers" from PTSD and are "triggered" by such things like rape and gore and being mocked because they can't take a joke.

PTSD stands for "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder"
User avatar
#166 - vikingesnumerouno (07/22/2014) [-]
Imagine being a rape victim with PTSD and then an unexpected rape joke is told in a group of people behind you and it sends your mind running and all that shit comes back to you. It's definitely a real thing and these tumblr faggots are
trivializing real triggers.
#159 - lordgeneral (07/22/2014) [-]
to explain it in complete and utter detail.
I suffer from PTSD. a few years ago, my girlfriend at the time and I were attacked by four SJW feminists who began to insult and yell at her for 'betraying her own gender' and attacked me when I tried to help. they then beat me and held me in place while they raped her.
my "trigger" is lesbianism and lesbian sex. It makes me physically ill (I have what they call a "psychoalergy")
if I were a tumblr user, I'd probably petition to make lesbianism illegal or something, but I don't. the only people who usually catch flak from me for it are people who are close to me, and it's more of a "please just don't bring it up around me" or a chide here and there to remind them. if I see a post on funnyjunk about lesbians, I just downthumb and move on. it hasn't stopped me from rallying beside lesbians or talking to them. I understand that my psychoalergy is managable for the most part (don't vomit, drink ginger ale asap, et cetera) but there are many people who have seizures and even black out.

pic related. mfw a bitch told me there were 'good' triggers too.

you do have to account for the fact that I'm really tired right now.
I fail to see why I'd lie about something like this, but still what you said was borderline retarded. "women will always be weaker than men"
User avatar
#231 - lolme (07/23/2014) [-]
You can't miss by 3 people, and you would lie because this is the internet and no one can hit you in the gabber if you're lying.

Also, no, it's not. I do nothing, I sit on my PC all day, I have done that for years now. I lifted my buddy (110kg) by my neck, from the ground and up onto my shoulders. How many women do you know that could do that? I also arm-wrestled a fit woman with visable muscles that trained four times a week, while I do nothing. It was over before it started. So no, I do not believe that it's bollocks. And FYI, I weigh 70kg and have never worked out in my entire life.
User avatar
#169 - lolme (07/22/2014) [-]
If this really is true, how come you didn't just give them one in the gabber each? Females who excercise a lot are about as strong as a male who doesn't move a muscle and just sits on his PC all day.

Let me try explaining with a story.

During the recent Tumblr raids from /b/, many users complained of these "triggers". They were "triggered" due to them seeing the excessive pornography and extremely graphic gore images. So some of them went into their retarded panic attacks, and there is a possibility one girl decided to O.D. on pills like a fucking retard.

Hope that explains it slightly
#68 - anon (07/22/2014) [-]
People with mood disorders (anxiety, depression, etc.) are often able to function normally most of the time, with the disorder only manifesting during at certain times called episodes. Certain topics can cause one of those episodes - they're called triggers.
e.g. a rape victim with PTSD might have an attack/episode if they read about someone else being raped, because it brings back unpleasant memories.

Now, I'm genderfluid and recovering from depression, but I think tumblr extremists are full of shit and agree with the OP. It's one thing to ask your friends to not talk about something because it upsets you, but that doesn't anyone else has any reason to respect your desires - the world doesn't revolve around you. People are free to be offensive and hateful if they wish, because that's life and anything else would be dystopian.

#34 - jimthesquirrelking (07/22/2014) [-]
People like tumblr users usually have or masquerade as if they have anxiety disorders or things like ptsd and the like and triggers are things that set off panic attacks because they remind them of something negative. That being said most of them are bullshit and people misuse them all the fucking time. Case in point people have been "triggered" by the sound of some else eating chips
User avatar
#27 - djequalizee (07/22/2014) [-]
Basically they're things that can set a person off. When i was younger i had a heart issue, so i was "Triggered" by stuff involving the heart. It's a real thing, but most of the people on tumblr use it as an umbrella term for anything they don't like. These are the same people that think it's okay to self diagnose themselves and talk about doctors being scum because they ask what your gender is. PTSD is a good example of a real trigger. A guy hears a gunshot and that makes him think about when he was suffering during a war.

In mental illness, a "trigger" is something that a person just cannot handle and shouldn't be exposed to. For example, certain retards don't like having their ears touched. You touch their ears, and they go ballistic, and are liable to attack you.
SJWs have adapted it to mean basically anything that insults them, and they use it as an excuse to have "panic attacks" and yell at people.
Personally, I find that to be in terrible taste, as well as retarded.
User avatar
#116 - arstya (07/22/2014) [-]
So...they're mentally retarded. K. Makes sense.
User avatar
#16 - pokimone (07/22/2014) [-]
Basically, someone says something, or brings up a topic, that makes them remember something unpleasent. They get a little sad, and cry about it to get sympathy. Long story short, its just a way to continue acting like a child when you need to be an adult.
#19 - ponypenetrator (07/22/2014) [-]
real triggers are when someone brings up a topic that brings back bad memories. tumblr triggers are when someone talks about normal things and the tumbitches attention whore because of their "OCD" and all the "rape" they face.
User avatar
#22 - pokimone (07/22/2014) [-]
I'm talking about the tumblr triggers, not real ones. Real triggers are things like loud noises with PTSD and things like that. But tumblr just needs to grow up. I would be surprised if 5% of the people on there really have what they say they do.
#14 - anon (07/22/2014) [-]
i'll try to explain but this may be a bad explanation

"triggers" are exactly how they sound, but with emotions. for example, some people may be triggered by discussions about rape. if they even hear the word, they claim to go into a huge panic attack and shut down. some people are triggered by the word "tranny". it's another step in politically correct word-policing
User avatar
#13 - greyhoundfd (07/22/2014) [-]
Some people have absolutely no emotional fortitude whatsoever, and their laziness prevents them from trying to build it. Instead, they just whine about "triggers" whenever someone says something that is even remotely offensive to them, instead of learning to deal with it with some fucking maturity. This is why people complain about Tumblr all the time. It's gotten to the point where some feminist groups have demanded that "trigger warnings" be placed on books like the Great Gatsby.

It's like, I'm an atheist, but I don't give a shit when people bring up god in a conversation. It's nothing major, and I get that other people have different ideas about the world. But every now and then you run into the atheists who will go "LOL, god's not reel" whenever someone mentions that they're Christian or something, and start some big argument for no reason whatsoever (or maybe they need to to get hard or something). It's the same shit with "triggers".
#11 - sygile (07/22/2014) [-]
I'm not sure, because I don't follow petty bullshit. But my GUESS is that "triggers" are things that "offend" people and "set them off".

Pic unrelated, just me spanking my monkey.

You know that scene in Wreck-it-Ralph where Felix says "Dynamite Gal" and Commander Whatsherface has a full flashback to her dates with whatshisdick right up until the moment he dies and when she finally snaps back to reality she's screaming and about to crash the thing?

That's an actual trigger.

That's... Actually a really good explanation.

The sad thing is, it were Tumblr that taught me to make that connection. Through one of those scenes-turned-image-series dealies no less.

This was ofcourse a few months before the SJW swarm gained critical mass.

I think the post I saw was cropped and hosted here on FJ, too, come to think. That or Imgur, seeing as I never go to Tumblr myself.
