I see. What is keeping the player on the edge? The time? Nah. Is there an event that occurs after the 8 minutes causing the loop? Some kind of doom event?

The ultimate goal is to prevent the loop from happening. But to know what to do you must try things. The player's life is disposable, so you can try to bite a wire to test its electricity, and next time you'll know what to expect.
You can disable the fire extinguisher system and create a big fire to activate the emergency system, or cut off the heating to freeze and expand the water in the pipes, and so on.

We must cut the time short so the player tries as many options as they can. There are multiple solutions for everything, but the tools are limited.

Why not have a longer time frame? Is there a reason why it's an 8 minute loop?

To keep the player on the edge, and make the choices really important. Gameplay-wise, it's a length where the player won't lose interest in the rather small game level.

And if the player wants to, he can expand the time frame, but mostly it's not necessary. The game is pretty cryptic sometimes, that's why we made an "Inbetween" level, a dimension that gives clues on what to do. To go there, the player will have to find a rift to it in the final minutes before the loop restarts.

So if you don't know what to do, and how, after 8 minutes you can get a clue.

You have 8 minutes and a carrier spaceship to explore and manipulate (as it is fully operational). You can expand the time by certain actions. If you die (actually sometimes it's better to just die) the time resets.
The twist is, there's someone else, who loops with you, but "wakes up" earlier so he can make some major differences, and can leave notes.

By the way, the game's name is OuterLine Lemniscate.
