I don't believe I violated the order of opporations in any during this example, and as you should be able to seethe brackets I placed on the equation were only to help people visualize the three major portions and not to alter the result. (1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1)  (1+1+1+1+1) + (1x0) =/= 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+11+1+1+1+1+1x0 (1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1)  (1+1+1+1+1) + (1x0) does indeed equal five, BUT this isn't the same equation since you added the parentheses. 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+11+1+1+1+1+1x0 = 13 because of PEMDAS. PEMDAS doesn't allow you to add parentheses to an equation, it tells you how to solve the equation using the parameters you are given. PEMDAS = Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. The original equation doesn't have any parentheses or exponents so we have to skip these steps. Next we multiply one with zero and get zero. We then subtract one with one and get zero again, now we have: 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+0+1+1+1+1+0, everyone should be able to figure this one out but since you thought the answer was five I'll walk you through it any way. 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 = 9+0 = 9+1+1+1+1 = 13+0 = 13 You just got schooled Mr. "Third Grade Math Teacher". You can not switch the order for convenience, all multplication has to be done before division is started and all addition has to be started before subtraction is started. #179
