“If a man makes more than a woman then it’s because of the choices he made such as working more hours, taking fewer days off, working overtime, doing risky jobs, etc… When you control for all of these factors, women actually out earn men. Men are expected to be the providers yet whenever men make more money, it’s considered discrimination even though discounts and freebies that women get just because they are female is not considered discrimination.”

“Feminists seem to forget that there are other forms of compensation for a job besides money such as fringe benefits, flexibility, more free time, etc… but they focus on the ONE part where men generally come out a little ahead. They also forget that since men are usually the providers, they have to spend their money to not only support themselves but a wife and children too.”

Marriage is becoming less and less popular. So are the traditional wife stays at home families. To be honest, very few of my friends have a mom that does not work.

People say that men are the main providers, but this is becoming much less so, as women are more likely nowadays to get higher education, etc. I really don't think they are "usually" the main providers. And what about single moms? Widows? Men aren't providers there.

Also, what "discounts and freebies" do women get from their jobs? The only thing I know of is maternal leave, which is shockingly brief in USA. And it's not like they're not working their asses off during that leave.
#42 - anon (06/06/2012) [-]
You want to know why marriage is becoming less popular?

Would you sign this contract?

"Your employer can, at any time, dismiss you, without justification, and he can have you imprisoned if you object too strongly to your dismissal. For example, if you raise your voice in anger at the way in which you are being treated, your employer may have you arrested for 'violence'. In any event, your employer can dismiss you regardless of the circumstances, and at his sole discretion.

"Your employer can fire you from your job whenever he wishes, no matter how long you have served his company, and even if you have done absolutely nothing wrong. Further, your employer can insist that you are evicted from your own home, and never allowed to re-enter it.

"Your employer may further demand that you must, under threat of imprisonment, forfeit part of any future income to the employer for some considerable time into the future."

Would you sign that contract? Men are largely starting to say, "fuck no!"

That is complete bullshit.

Marriage is about love and it isn't meant to end in divorce. You don't get married for the convenience of divorce, that's not logical.

The real reason marriage is becoming less popular is because it's becoming more socially acceptable to stay single. In the past, you could be like a social pariah for staying single forever. It used to be seen as a depressing failure of a life to be unmarried. It's a social thing.
#48 - anon (06/06/2012) [-]
You are absolutely right that marriage is not supposed to end in divorce, yet more than half of marriages do end in divorce.

And who does the majority of the divorcing? Women an overwhelming 66% of the time!
http://www . pobronson . com /blog/2006/07/will-this-marriage-last-who-wants-out . html

Who gets the kids? Well, 84% of the time it's the mother!

Paternity fraud? LOL! 30% of fathers who take a paternity test are not even the real father!
http://www . worldnetdaily . com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48871xo

No. It's less popular because of social conventions. Right. Not because women are fucking men over left and right, no that can't be it.
User avatar
#50 - msvegeta (06/06/2012) [-]
The whole who gets the kids thing is the biggest problem. I definitely agree with you that that's wrong.

But you know what? That's not the fault of most women. It's the system. Juries are compromised of males AND females, so the fault for that is shared. If guys have a problem with it, they would become active politically, not stop marrying.

Also, I don't think your statistic for who initiates the divorce is accurate. Usually it's a mutual decision, so the man sometimes agrees with the need for divorce. And then the woman files the paperwork. That doesn't mean anything.

Honestly, guys always complain about feminism. But do they have a movement? No. Feminism is all about trying to create equality, and if it oversteps that line, guys have a right to protest instead of bitching. Maybe your criticism would be better received in a court.
#53 - anon (06/06/2012) [-]
Men DO have a movement. The MRM - the Men's Rights Movement. You just don't ever hear about it because the media is controlled by the feminist lobby.

Men also have another approach, which is the MGTOW - Men Going Their Own Way. There are enormous numbers of these men who don't even know what they are. They are the ones who refuse to marry, refuse to have relationships beyond casual sex, and refuse to work the sorts of jobs that women expect of men. It's an enormous movement in Japan - the Grass Eating Boys, and they're destroying Japan as we know it in protest.

The important thing to remember is, MRMs are not against women. MRMs are against feminism. They are 2 separate entities.
User avatar
#54 - msvegeta (06/06/2012) [-]
But you know, feminism as a movement isn't bad.

There's still places all around the world where women have almost no rights. They get attacked by acid, are forced into marriage when young, get attacked for going to school, aren't allowed to drive, etc. And while rapes happen to everyone, the majority of victims are female.

I really think there is value in a continued feminist movement, despite the negative sides.

Backtracking cuz it ran out of replies-

Definitions of feminism-
"the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men." (dictionary.com)
"A movement to end sexist oppression as well as domination relations. This does not only aim to make women equal to men, but all people equal to each other in rights. It is one gear in the bigger machine of human rights." (Urban Dictionary)
"ultimately about affirming the dignity and well-being of women" (Americamagazine.org)
"the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes" (Webster's Dictionary)

Pick which definition you like, but I think your initial one was incorrect. Feminism is a gear in the machine of human rights.

3: If you align yourself with the church of cannibals, people are going to think you a cannibal even if you aren't. Feminism is a hate-filled group of bigots. Men are being taught to avoid any woman who identifies as a feminist through experience.
