I understand. The constitution protects not saying the pledge. Typically those who don't say it are just trying to act like intellectuals, but they come across as raging assholes. Coming from a military family, it feels disrespectful to not say the pledge in protest of military, when it is the same military that secures the right to speak out against the government in this country.

Even if you don't pledge, you should still stand to show respect.

It's like being present for prayers when you don't belong to the religion. Sure, don't pray, but don't be a dick and make noise or whatever.
User avatar #173 - frienderman (04/03/2014) [-]
Hey, look, I'm all for the pledge and I totally agree with it (though I've always gone to private schools where we don't say it); I'm just saying that people claiming that we're fascists who force kids to swear absolute allegiance to the nation are blatantly wrong.

Good to hear! No need to apologize. Were you watching or playing? Either way, if you played, did you win? If you watched, I hope the team you were rooting for succeeded.

What's going with you? Anything interesting come your way (that you feel like sharing)?
User avatar #127 to #126 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
I was watching with my sister and her husband. The team they were rooting for lost, but I like both teams so I'm just happy that it was an exciting game.

As for interesting things, I've applied early decision to college, so we'll see how that goes, and that's about it. Otherwise just school as usual.
User avatar #128 to #127 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
Oh so you're in high school? Senior?
Man, it was only a few years ago for me, but it feels like aeons ago.
User avatar #129 to #128 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Yes and yes. I go to a lovely prep school in New Jersey, and being a senior is awesome! If you don't mind me asking a slightly personal question, how old are you? .-.

Don't sweat it, it's on my profile, so if I wanted it private it wouldn't be there.
I'm 22, I'll be 23 at the end of December.
User avatar #131 to #130 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Awesome. So what are you doing in post-college-land? Job? Grad school? Little of both?
User avatar #132 to #131 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
It's a long and embarrassing tale, but I flunked out of college because of some **** that we'll summarize as "narcolepsy". There's more to it, but that's what did me in.
Going to go back to college, but no idea as for what, but for now, going to try and earn my keep.
User avatar #133 to #132 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Fair enough, no worries. I have a sister who flunked out of college five times, but now she's doing well, has a house, and is on her way to becoming a teacher.

Success sometimes has a strange way of coming about.
User avatar #134 to #133 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
Lord knows that's true.
So often I've worried that if I don't follow all the right steps, only failure awaits. But I'm learning that, as my little brother put it: "You have to be willing to fail until you succeed."
User avatar #135 to #134 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Mm. To quote one of my idols, "You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you."
User avatar #136 to #135 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
Heh, I could have used a few when I was in high school. I acted nice on the outside, but inside I was one grouchy ANGRY ************ . Part of why I chose Atrocitus as my avatar. A reference to that time in my life.

By the way, who was it that said that? Who's your idol?
User avatar #137 to #136 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Walt Disney, actually.

Since I'm bored and should probably make a list of them anyway, my idols are:
>Walt Disney
>Carl Sagan
>Syd Mead
>Robert Downy Jr
>Leo DiCaprio
>Steven Spielberg
>Albert Einstein
>Adam Savage

I'm probably missing some people, and there are probably some people I should take down from that list but eh, it's nice to try recording people whom I look up to.
User avatar #138 to #137 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
Hmm, guess I'll have to put together one of my own...
Tolkein would definitely be on it, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, though what I've heard of Carl Sagan I like very much. Big fan of Dr. Cornel West, he says exactly what's on his mind, and it sometimes gets him in trouble. I like that about him, even though I don't agree with everything he says.
I'll have to think about this some more. Maybe I'll be able to give you a more complete list sometime. Maybe include Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., and St. Patrick.
User avatar #139 to #138 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Out of curiosity, are you Catholic?
User avatar #140 to #139 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
Funnily enough, no. Protestant, actually. I admire St. Patrick because of his absolutely amazing forgiveness. He is enslaved by the Irish, escapes, and then goes back to preach to them. I find that incredible, no doubt helped by the fact that I struggle to forgive and can hold grudges.
User avatar #141 to #140 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Interdasting. I was raised Irish Catholic (now atheist, bleh), so I suppose St. Patrick just stuck out to me.

If you're into that type of person, definitely consider Gandhi, especially since he's whom MLK aspired to be like.
User avatar #142 to #141 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
I would have mentioned him, but I felt that, since I know so little about him, I worried that somehow that would mean it didn't count or something.
I also would like to mention the philosopher John Stewart Mill, as I read some of his "On Liberty" and liked what I read.
User avatar #145 to #142 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
Sounds like a guy worth looking into.
User avatar #146 to #145 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
I'll have to reread his book sometime, as I slept through a lot of it the first time (narcolepsy and all that).
User avatar #143 to #142 - frienderman (11/29/2013) [-]
He's a really cool guy, Gandhi. Watch the movie if you want an overview of the awesome **** he got done.

Also, I'm not familiar with John Mill; I'll have to check that out.
User avatar #144 to #143 - atrocitustheking ONLINE (11/29/2013) [-]
I know the basic outline, Gandhi freed India from British rule via entirely non-violent means.

J. S. Mill's a cool guy. He was for women's suffrage and abolition before the Civil War. It's said that feminism has many mothers, but only one father. Interesting guy, I like his spiel on the rights of others, even if, or even especially if, their views are unpopular.

The recent edition (4th) is probably the easiest to get into. The rules are much more streamlined than previous ones. That said, some people prefer 3rd edition because those rules are much more comprehensive.

It's quite a bit of fun actually. It's a combination between board games and theatre. The chance to step into the shoes of a role of your choosing.

I'm the Dungeon Master (or DM) so I'm a bit of a combo of referee and narrator.

You as well, kind sir.

Many of my friends are haters or at least hater leaning, and I've found that it is all caused by obnoxious/unfunny pony posts on Funnyjunk. They're being haters make it difficult for me to "come out" as a brony, so hopefully making ponytime better will make fewer people have to deal with that situation.

Miles Edgeworth
Prosecutor
He comes from the game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Its a very good game where you play as a defense lawyer in difficult ****** cases.
It is famous for its over the top antics and ridiculous characters.
This is also the game where you see OBJECTION get screamed out alot in big red letters, if you have seen that floating around the internet.

Oh yeah I totally agree about the pony posts. I think that some pony posts are okay, though, as long as they don't take up 5% of posts on Funnyjunk as they do now.

And I know you probably don't mean it but
>Fag is short for ******
> ****** is a derogatory term for a homosexual man
>Homosexuality is having sexual desires directed at a person of the same sex
>Watching a little girl's show has nothing to do with sexual desires
>Brony doesn't equal fag

Also, nice to meet a respectable anti-brony.
