I see what you mean, and I agree wholeheartedly that the movie is pointless, but what I just cant wrap my head around is the crazy amount of hate that this movie gets. I don't think that this being just another example of the politically correct sphere of media justifies the hate it recieves. It's like why should we give a shit, it's just a crappy a movie with some contemporary values being shoved down our throat, nothing new just ignore that shit.

Well for me, it's a huge offence simply because my passion in life is film. I love movies, I have a massive film collection and I want to be a film director. I'm even going to film school. When I see someone take a massive shit all over my favorite art form, I get pretty pissed off. As for everyone else, I think the majority of the people who hate it hate it just because it's a nostalgia thing. They grew up with Ghostbusters or just really like it and think it's a huge slap to the face to make this. I personally don't care about the fact that it's Ghostbusters simply because I never really cared for the franchise. But I can see what you're saying.

The book is a really hard read, mostly because Kesey was off his ass on LSD the entire time he wrote it. it's thought provoking not only because it dives into the counter culture that Kesey was a massive influence upon, but because Chief Bromden is horribly unstable and isn't taking his meds. That wouldn't be so bad if the entire book wasn't through Bromden's eyes. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish if it's Kesey trying to describe the environment through idioms or actually what Bromden thinks is happening. And the book explores Chief more as a person, his thoughts and feelings and why he's actually even there. Which is half the fun because Chief is by far my favorite character from any movie.

Another fun fact about the movie, the man who played Chief Bromden, Will Sampson, wasn't an actor, he was a wildlife ranger. They couldn't find any other Native American that towered over Nicholson.

It's no problem. I'm not sure if you have to be a member to play it or if it's free but I know that they recently reopened it.
