Foxes, however, are in fact canines. They're peculiarly cat-like, but they're definitely canines; just a different "branch" away from wolves, dogs, coyotes, etc. which cannot cross-breed with any of those; only other vulpines.

What are your sources claiming that raccoons are canines but foxes are not?

All members of the Vulpes genus are of the Canine family. They're both. Google it if you don't want to take my word for it.
