Sorry, but that doesn't seem realistic.

Do you agree with the following statement?:
"If someone has no reason to lie, then their claim is true."

Also believing something actually happen does not make it true.

"no one believes that they lied about it."
Just want to say you don't know that.

Well, realistic and realistic. If you find it realistic or not does not matter. What matters is the truth.

"If someone has no reason to lie, then their claim is true."

"Also believing something actually happen does not make it true."

You saying this proves you don't get what I'm saying to you. I never said that "If someone has no reason to lie, then their claim is true." or that believing something actually happen makes it true. What I said is that they BELIEVED it to be true! Therefore they did not lie!

""no one believes that they lied about it."
Just want to say you don't know that."

When I say no one believes that they lied about that, then I'm referring to the scholars in NT history. Even the biggest sceptics at least admit that the disciples believed that that Jesus rose from the dead. Does that make it true? No, not necessarily. Does it mean they did not lie? Yes!

Right. As I kept saying, they would have had better reason to be quiet, since the Romans, Jews, and many others wantedthem dead.

But even if you discount their witness testimony, even if you discount all 500 witnesses who saw him alive. You still have to look at the resurrection sunday.
1. IF you say that Jesus just passed out on the cross, that means that the Romans didnt do a good job at killing (which would have been imposible, invetors of the crusafizion style who had punctured his heartwith a spear), put him in a tomb and, in a weakened state, got out of nearly 100 pounds of wraps and spices, moved a 1000 pound rock, and overtook 18-25 soldiers unarmed and escaping.
2. If the disciples took it,that would mean 11 men attacked a Roman guard, broke civil law by breaking a roman protect perimited, overtook the guards (WHich would have caused a comotion causing more soldiers to come.) Same could be said for the women who came that morning and the disciples would not have gotten the body of Judas.

There are too many thought provoking questions relating to the particulars that cause us to only accept the resurection. Athiests say that want reason and facts but disregard any evidence we bring forward, showing a double standard.

People can't rise from the dead naturally but we're not saying he was raised from the dead naturally, we're saying he was raised supernaturally, by God of Israel.

"I don't have to give a reason why I think he's lying. Like the unicorn eating the chocolate universe, I would discard it."

Well actually you do have to give a reason for why they're lying, or else I can say "I believe that the Muslims who blow themselves up don't really believe they're going to heaven." and you might say "But they site their holy book as for it and why would they else kill themselves?" and I would respond "I don't have to give a reason for them lying."

And again, about he universe thing. You're really exaggerating this when it comes to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. People might say that they think they saw a certain person who died alive, or that they saw a ghost or something like that, that is NOT the same as claiming something bizarre as a unicorn eating a universe.

You might not believe in the resurrection, but under no circumstance can you say "They're lying" for no reason what so ever. The disciples believed they had seen the risen lord. How you attempt to explain that is up to you, but no one believes that they lied about it.

Besides, your example is not a very good one. How can anyone eat a universe? And furthermore, what is a chocolate universe?

Personally I would not believe him because he hasn't shown me any evidence for it, plus, I'm pretty certain unicorns don't exist and that if such a being existed that it would not be able to eat a universe within a universe.

What the deciples claim is not that the sky is falling, or that they saw a square-circle. They claim they saw a man be raised from the death, and that this man was the son of God.

You also he to give a reason for why they would be lying. In the case of person 1, he might have hidden reasons for lying. Maybe he lies for amusement, or because he wants to test the intelligence of person 2.

In the case of the disciples there isn't really any good reason to say that they're lying.
"Hey, John, I'm bored."
"Yeah, me too, Peter"
"You know what we should do! We should make up a story about this man who lived in Nazareth, who did wonderful deeds, died in one of the biggest cities in the country, then raised from the death, and then go through great persecution and getting eaten by lions, get stoned to death, get crucified and much worse!"
"Gee Peter, that sounds like a great idea!"

Seriously though, the disciples believed that Jesus was raised from the dead. Basically every scholar agrees on that.

Do you not see the fallacy?

Ex:
person 1: "hey i saw a ghost unicorn eating little chocolate universes"
person 2: "yeah right"
person 1: "oh you don't believe me? why would i lie about this anyway..."
User avatar
#478 - finni (05/07/2014) [-]
No I don't.

Person 1 might think he saw what he saw or he might lie. How can we know if he's lying or not? Well, maybe because if person 1 would go through horrible torture and never recant, even going so far as to go to his death, still saying he saw what he saw, then we can pretty safely say, "Yeah, that guy obviously believed, he saw a ghost unicorn eating little chocolate universes"
