The first Alien movie wasn't meet with the same acclaim that it is given to this day. It was actually titled as a somewhat mediocre. I think the same will happen to Prometheus. I think one day in the future it will be more appreciated.
User avatar #64 - jimboismynameo (08/10/2013) [-]
oh look a wrong opinion

jokes aside i enjoyed the movie, sure it could have been a bit better

Michael fassbender was brilliant and i will always like noomi rapace for the girl with the dragon tattoo (swedish versions)

Yeah, can't believe how directors these days don't watch their own movies.

... I love Prometheus. I never understood all the hate for the film. Honestly I thought it was a masterpiece. The CGI was superb, the story wasn't that bad, it seemed tried and true to the original concept of the Alien movies. Think how many sci fi films go to the extent the Prometheus did in this day and age? It was a true, hardcore sci fi movie at heart. I really don't care what fans/critics think, if I like it, I like it, everyone else can piss off.
#47 - reiconex (08/10/2013) [-]
To be fair, it's the dialogue that killed it for me, but besides that the movie was enjoyable

*Let's do some science* Stick sensor into ancient petrified alien skull and blow it up 5 seconds after finding it.

*Lets do some science* Get one reading air might be breathable, take masks off and don't give a shit about contamination.

*Lets do some science* The DNA of these monsters is identical to ours. They must be our creators! Wrong, all it means is that they're human.

*Let's go on a dangerous adventure* Only weapons are flamethrowers and axes.

*Find previous dead friend in front of spacecraft with legs in a very unnatural position* Let's open the gate and prod him with a stick.

*Robot steals jars without anyone noticing* Puts them in the freezer where anyone can see them.

I got lazy, didn't want to type any more.
User avatar #91 - akkere (08/10/2013) [-]
Couple problems with your first four points.

1. They were trying to bring the alien's nervous system to activity and use the sensor to understand how it worked.

2. "Air might be breathable" translates to a number of things - they might've detected for any degree of contamination beforehand, whether radioactive or pathogenic (they would've known if the planet was radioactive right off the bat anyway), as well as obviously detecting if there was a degree of oxygen content suitable for breathing, and even then they were cautious about taking the helmets off until the person running the scouting decided to take the helmet off as part of his reckless nature; that's called character.

3. They implied it because they assumed the alien was advanced on account of the ancient signs they left that heavily predated us. Only one of them was really fanatical towards the idea; that's called character.

4. It wasn't a military expedition. These weren't space marines, they were scientists.

The biggest thing for me was the guy getting near the snake thing, first of all it's an alien, you have no idea what it's capable of, second of all it's hissing at you, that's the universal animal sigh for "fuck off or you're dead" but the worst thing is the guy's supposed to be a genius, they're all supposed to be geniuses but they act like morons.

User avatar #9 - asasqw (08/10/2013) [-]
Confusing, plot holes, trying to link to something far superior, destroying established cannon, sounds like a prequel movie to me.
User avatar #11 - skroll (08/10/2013) [-]
A plot hole is where something in the movie contradicts something else... Prometheus just had some unexplained things in it, rather than any plot holes.
