*sigh* okay first of all
metals (atoms) CAN be ions. Most atomic elements can be ions (besides noble gases) This is actually why we have ionic compounds
Metal + nom-Metal atoms.
Regardless, you can have metal atoms with no charge with an oxidation state of zero too. That's quite common, we rarely have ions flowing around in the world after all since they'd get bonded rather quickly.
What these guys are talking about is not ionic or covalent bonding. Its metallic bonding. These metals are all grouped together but they ALL share the electrons rather than having them share via atom/molecule to atom/molecule. Thats why metals are so shiny, conductive, and malleable. All those electrons make for great conductivity and those weak electron bonds makes light reflect easier while having the structure be rather weak to bend and shape.
That anonymous guy is wrong, molecules are the smallest unit of any group of atoms OR compounds with ANY kind of chemical bond.
The smartass up there was probably talking about atoms vs compounds, but in that case the existence of alloys makes him wrong either way since metals can be both atomic (gold) or compound (Steel) in composition.
You can even have alloys made form a metal/non-metal too but thats another discussion.

Pure elemental Gallium has a melting point of 29.76 °C (85.57 °F). It will start melting in his hand if he holds it for long enough. The temperature of the water in the mug is probably higher than body temperature, therefore it melts faster there. About the shaping part, there are molds you can buy in which you can make your own Gallium spoons if you also have Gallium.

"The copypasta is believed to have originated on the military and weapons enthusiast image board Operator Chan sometime in 2010. The earliest archived posting was submitted on November 11th, 2010 to 4chan’s /jp/ (Otaku Culture) board, in which the poster claimed to have seen the message previously on Operator Chan."
