I wanted to make some since I was in welding at the time, there was a ton of rusty iron and aluminum I could have used, but my science teacher told me I'd get in a lot of trouble haha

It's pretty hard to get the powder fine enough, but I don't know about trouble, it's so easy to get the ingredients that it's not a controlled substance. Just don't do anything stupid with it

Figures. It's amusing just how easy it is to make thermite though, all you need is aluminum and an oxide of any less-reactive metal (usually iron), and if you powder it enough the chemistry just does the rest, dirt cheap.
