While I agree with you, I don't think Egypt (nor any Arab country at the moment) is safe, not with ISIS popping here and there and going full jihad on the locals.

It's called incentive for Delivery Drivers. If I didn't get tips I'd take my sweet ass time delivering to people, and you food might or might not get jostled around a lot in the when I hit turns super fast. Literally almost no one would deliver pizza if they didn't get tipped. Even if they got like 12 dollars an hour from the store. It wouldn't be worth worrying about if the Pies get to the address time, dealing with traffic, road work, and having to put mileage on your car and gas in it. Even if they know they might only get a chance of 2 bucks they'll deal with all of it and more to make the customer happy.

they pay us $# less than the minimum wage. if they paid us as much as other employees, we would get a lot more money than them (though not thanks to people like you who don't tip) and it would be a bit unfair, o everyone would want to be a delivery driver instead of whatever they're doing

Yeah I've seen that and I know where you're coming from. Sometimes it hurts my wallet to have to tip but I'm not going to be selfish and essentially not pay someone for their work. People have been complaining about the tipping system for a long time. It's not going anywhere in America. Not tipping someone because you don't like it isn't going to change it. It just makes you a crummy person man.
User avatar
#244 - emprex (09/01/2015) [-]
Nope - I don't care about cost its just tipping is reserved for EXCEPTIONAL service not the average - pay your workers humanely or let them live in poverty thus inevitably leading to change.

#264 - emprex (09/01/2015) [-]
yeah, I never tip because I know they get a semi-decent wage - but, I still think Americans need to change their ways
User avatar
#265 - YllekNayr (09/01/2015) [-]
Then say that to begin with. We're talking apples and oranges here.
Nobody expects you to tip in England.
And yeah, it'd be nice if America would fucking change on that, because it's ridiculous.

But like I said, the system isn't going anywhere. There are people that don't believe in tipping everywhere. Does that change the system whatsoever? No, it just stiffs people of pay. Even if the service isn't exceptional, I still throw in 3 bucks or so for an average priced meal. The only time I don't tip is if the waiter is rude for no reason or forgets about me.
User avatar
#135 - YllekNayr (09/01/2015) [-]
You obviously don't understand how backwards the American system is for waiters and delivery drivers.

They don't get paid any kind of real amount. All their wage is from tips.

In the meantime, everyone says "lol complaining about wages you're a low class job you should get a better job"

So......people should have to work these jobs, but they don't deserve to be paid for it?

Ideally we'd change the system, but as of right this moment, it's not changed. So do they not deserve to be paid for doing their job?
User avatar
#175 - catpisseverdeen (09/01/2015) [-]
Why should businessmen pay some kid a trade wage for doing a menial task?
User avatar
#191 - YllekNayr (09/01/2015) [-]
I believe everyone should be able to live off their wages if they're working a 40 hour week. You know it's not exactly an enjoyable or un-demanding line of work for them.
User avatar
#408 - catpisseverdeen (09/02/2015) [-]
That's called a utopia. Societies that try to be a utopia generally fail. I'm sorry, but if you aren't making enough to live off of, you should find another job. I shouldn't have to suffer because of your failures in life.
User avatar
#410 - YllekNayr (09/02/2015) [-]
So there are jobs that need to be done, and we need people to work them, but they don't deserve to be able to live.
Got it.

Fuck your "utopia" bullshit. It's not a utopia to have work that pays you a livable wage. That should be fucking expected.
User avatar
#223 - Silver Quantum (09/01/2015) [-]

User avatar
#231 - Silver Quantum (09/01/2015) [-]
well no shit they should be able to live, but no boss is going to pay more than the absolute minimum wage required by law for such menial jobs.
User avatar
#232 - YllekNayr (09/01/2015) [-]
I know.
But minimum wage isn't enough to live off of any more.
You keep saying menial jobs. You're right, they are, but they're not beneath us. They're still people. They're still working 40 hour weeks. They deserve to be able to pay rent and buy food. Don't you think?
User avatar
#239 - Silver Quantum (09/01/2015) [-]
no one says they don't deserve it and i keep saying menial because that's what they are. jobs that don't require any special talent to perform. and you get paid as such. want more money? look for a higher paid job. aren't qualified for anything? go to school and study and work harder so you can get the job you want. people often complain that there aren't many jobs to pick from so they take whatever they can get, and then complain that they can barely get by. but all that is simply a consequence of the choices they make. no one is keeping you from living the life you want. anything is achievable if you work hard enough. such is life
User avatar
#254 - YllekNayr (09/01/2015) [-]
And yet someone still has to work those jobs.
Everyone can't get better jobs, because we still need someone to man all the cash registers, and serve food, and such. Additionally, there are menial jobs that get paid well, such as garbage men.

I didn't say anything about more money than the amount I speak of, which is being able to pay the bills at the end of the month. Obviously better jobs tend to lead to better pay, but what the original comment seems to suggest is that they don't deserve even that. He seems to think that someone should work these jobs, but they don't deserve to be paid for them.

>>#133, It should apply to waiters/pizza guys - tips are there for EXCEPTIONAL service (service achievable by a pizza guy). Can you not see it is ridiculous to expect the customer to make up the wage of the employee which the employer should. If tipping stops then the employees go into poverty, once that happens the president of the day will be slammed by the rising statistic and will be forced to do something about it until then enjoy tipping like a fucking idiot

YllekNayr - Well its not my fault the system is broken, don't like it change it. like I said lobby for it, protest, (americans love a riot) something other than accepting a shit wage where working full time does not equal a decent living standard. Its ridiculous to expect the customer to make up wages that the company should pay.
User avatar
#153 - Ruspanic (09/01/2015) [-]
I don't see why charging everyone more for foodservice would be significantly better than charging less and expecting customers to tip. Exceptional service still gets bigger tips than average or shitty service.
User avatar
#164 - emprex (09/01/2015) [-]
because at the moment some people tip others don't. why should one employee get paid more via tip than a second employee that does the exact same job. If you highered their pay will stop tipping unless in exceptional circumstances thus making it fairer for individual employees
User avatar
#173 - Ruspanic (09/01/2015) [-]
It's not so much that particular employees will get less for the same job, it's more that particular customers will tip less. But if you work in foodservice you're bound to get both high-tipping and low-tipping customers, so on average you'll make about the same as any other employee of comparable quality. I do think that in the US most people tip at restaurants - there aren't that many people who don't tip at all, because it's such an ingrained cultural expectation.

I would have thought that a large enough company that pays minimum wage e.g. MacDonalds would make enough profit that a rise in minimum wouldn't cause them to sack half their staff
#362 - anon (09/01/2015) [-]
when obama care came into place, mcdonalds cut hours so you could only work 36 hours a week and not be eligible for the healthcare.

User avatar
#111 - captainfuckitall (09/01/2015) [-]
It's actually not how businesses work, sorry Heartlessrobot.

Legally, nobody can pay you below minimum wage. If, in a situation such as tipping, you make less than minimum wage, the company is legally obligated to make up the difference.

User avatar
#116 - heartlessrobot (09/01/2015) [-]
Companies are allowed to not allow their employees to receive extra money on company time, but they often have contracts with their employees to allow them to receive undocumented money on company time, AKA tips, in exchange for lower wages. Oftentimes, the tips add up to much more than the company would be willing to pay them.
#277 - anon (09/01/2015) [-]
Usually those who can't even make the minimum in tips are fired because that means they're giving shit service if nobody is tipping them, so when you tell your boss or if they care enough to notice you'll look bad.
User avatar
#117 - captainfuckitall (09/01/2015) [-]
Then there's no issue. If they make below, they still have to be paid minimum, though.
User avatar
#107 - heartlessrobot (09/01/2015) [-]
Oh, they'd sack them just so they wouldn't have to pay more. They can, but of course they would choose not to. Because that's how business works.

Well yeah, anyone with a decent understanding of how that type of employment works(restaurant or otherwise) knows that, I'm just saying that the post seemed to hit close to home and wondered if he wanted to open up about his feelings. And that's not exploitation of the work force, because most waitresses, waiters, pizza delivery dudes make well above minimum when tips are taken into account, that's exploitation of the customer to pay an employees income.
