english isn't my first language, I don't get the logic that you write 'full' but not 'powerfull'.
AHUM any way, dark souls.

What happened to gwyn is interesting. There are stil a lot of plotholes in my theory though, but I like the 'Velka's judgement' theory the most of all the plot theories.
I have not gotten into much of the ds2 lore, but I have some theories already. I hope I can maybe strengthen the Velka's Judgement theory with stuff I can find in ds2.
spoiler for one of the first bosses: Velka is present though, I have written a part about the pursuer here: funnyjunk.com/From+Jokexplain+with+love/funny-pictures/5079121/723#723

Anyway, to the Gwyn being alive question. This is where things get tricky:

Dark Souls 2 spoilers! If you have beaten the first few bosses you can safely read ahead

Why do bosses drop humanity? they aren't ascendends of the dark soul, so how do they have humanity? Why are the giants in DS2 stone instead of the more fleshy appearance in ds1? This is the only explanation I can give:
Giants in dark souls 1 are influenced by the dark soul, while the Giants in ds2 aren't. I think a 'pure' giant has the stone skins like the ones in ds2. the giants in ds1 are influenced by the dark soul and have gained human like features.

In dark souls 1, the giants were afraid of the growth of humanity. Humanity became a real threat because it was starting to take over the giants. Gwyn might have been the first giant to become 'infected' by the dark soul. Gwyn's already powerful lord soul was now combined with the dark soul, which created a really powerful piece of humanity.

If a being loses his humanity, he becomes hollow. So when Gwyn burned his humanity, he became the hollow being that is the final boss battle

English isn't my first either and tbh I don't get the logic either.

Yeah, I like your Velka theory too. His psycho laugh when you talk to him in DS1 made me question his intentions towards me too.

Once again, I haven't played DS2 so can't talk a lot about that either.

Either way, I commend your theories, thank you for your responses.

you say good and bad ending, but they both a moral and good side and an evil and bad side. Remember that dark souls lore is all about speculation, here's mine:
I refer to them as the light, and dark ending.
The game tries to teach you that the dark is not specifically something evil, as in Dark Souls, the dark is actually a big part of humanity (look at the humanity items).

I think that there is a whole hidden side to the story, this side of the story revolves around my favorite character: Velka the Goddess of Sin. We'll keep her in mind for later.
First let's start with the reason why human's exist, which is the dying of the first flame. When you feed humanity to a bonfire, it's flames grow stronger. When the first flame began to fade, the Lords needed a way to keep it alive. Replicating the first flame ended badly (to say the least).
The giants discovered humans have a hidden link to fire, and the giants discovered that feeding fire humanity makes fire strong again. So Gwyn allowed humans to live among them, and let the humans grow in strength.

Gwyn harvested humans … pretty bad right? exactly, now to Velka

User avatar #1491 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
This sin could not go unpunished, and Velka wanted revenge. Tell me, what says "revenge" more then having an undying, soul eating warrior hunting you down ? that's where the player comes in. From the asylum, you are rescued by Oscar (possible agent of Velka) and then escorted to Lordran by a crow. What's Velka's symbol? yup, it's a crow.

The curse of the undead was linked to the rekindling of the first flame. the curse of the undead…, I believe Velka cursed humans as a weapon against the lords.

according to darkstalker Kathe, the fire is hindering humanity, and an age of dark can make humans powerfull. sweet deal right? Lords are dead so velka has no use for the curse of the undead, and humans become more powerfull!

not exactly…

Look at oolacile, a place overcome by the darkness. It does not seem very nice does it.

so do you restore the lords to power by linking the first flame? saving the world from the dark but make a thread to humanity powerfull again?
or do you usher in an age of darkness, lifting the curse and growing humanity?
User avatar #1655 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
But won't the Dark Ending mean that the world is closer to suffering the fate of Oolacile?
User avatar #1703 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
It does. which gives you the dilemma of wether you make the world meet the fate of oolacile, or for humanity to be under the reign of the giants once again.
There is no good ending
User avatar #1829 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
Oh that's really helpful. Now I don't have to be in the Bell Shitter covenant and I can go back to being grossly incandescent.
User avatar #1831 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
(are we continueing the conversation from the continue after final boss thing? :l )

In case you didn't know. NG+ ads a lot of new things (not lore though :[ ) It's comparable to being gravelorded in ds1
User avatar #1840 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
I noticed. I used a bonfire asetic at Heide's Tower of Flame to respawn the damn sublime knight but apparently I can't get my estus flasks any better. I have 12 flasks at +6.
User avatar #1852 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
estus flask is to OP imo. It completely ruins the use of life gems. I think the max amount of estus should be 3, so people really save them for important situations
#1853 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
I suppose. I used now use estus flasks frequently because I don't see why I shouldn't while earlier in the game I used a lot of lifegems for most situations since I knew I had an infinite supply of them from Melentia.
User avatar #1712 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
I think the lighting the fire is the lesser evil as it gives the world more time to try and come up with a plan for fighting the darkness or at least makes everything repeat itself.

Then again it's uncertain what will happen in the age of Darkness, it may be that darkness doesn't consume everything after all.

Also I personally do not think the giants from Dark Souls 1 are the same as the giants from Dark Souls 2.
User avatar #1717 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
But keep in mind that you are at the top of the power with the dark ending, you can fight against Manus and create a 'better' version of a 'by darkness consumed' world.
User avatar #1724 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
Yeah, that's why I'm saying that we don't really know what happens after either ending.

And linking the flame doesn't mean humanity will live under the Giants thumb as most of them have lost power and fled or hollowed out or something akin to that.
User avatar #1762 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
that's the thing though. Linking the fire will restore the power to the lords, meaning the giants will be restored
User avatar #1768 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
And what does restoring the power of the Lords help when all the Lords are dead? How does this affect the rest of the giants?
User avatar #1773 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
Gwyn, Nito and the witch won't be resurrected. But Gwynevere still lives (keep in mind that the gwynevere in Anor Londo is an illusion).
this is another part of speculation, but I think Kingseeker Frampt is using you. He wants you to become powerful and feed yourself to the flame, so that Gwynevere can rule the new age of fire.
User avatar #1781 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
Yes but in my opinion I don't think Darkstalker Kaathe is trying to help you much either.

To be honest, none of the endings are really good.
User avatar #1790 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
exactly

Also, sunbros for life.

Played Dark Souls 2? Finished it? If not, what area you in?
User avatar #1807 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
Finished it 3 times, now in NG++
User avatar #1813 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
Oh right.

I haven't completed my first playthrough... mostly because I'm just exploring around now before I go for the last bosses.
User avatar #1820 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
And that's the best way to play a souls game, to really enjoy dark souls, take your time.
User avatar #1821 - satrenkotheone (04/01/2014) [-]
Oh I am taking my time, making sure I find every piece of lore I can and every little secret in every little corner. Though I'm now level 170 with 3 +10 weapons...

Currently working on getting +10 Sun Sword, I read that the Stone trader gets infinite Titanite Chunks after the boss is defeated. Does this mean the game doesn't end once you defeat the final boss?
User avatar #1828 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
So feel free to finish the last boss, so you can get the last armor sets, and last items. ( a few dialogues open when defeating the last boss)
User avatar #1827 - darksoulsexplain (04/01/2014) [-]
it doesn't once the last boss is defeated, a "start second journey to drangleic" button is added to the bonfire in Majula
#1579 - eeaglee (04/01/2014) [-]
Damn you took this to a whole new level with Velka and Gwyn. BTW, why was Gwyn alive although he burnt himself for the flame?

Anyway, is Velka not going against his morals here? Cursing humans just so he can get back at Gwyn(for harming humans, ironically).

I never played the DLC so I dont know much about Oolacile, which is quite a shame.

I am aware that what we write here is just speculation, as you mentioned, at which you did a really nice job.

PS: its "powerful", only one L

ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
they can hear, and see what your visually thinking
this is the complete truth
The reason a lot of Asians have completely expressionless faces, segregate from everybody else-only associate with Asians and don’t associate with non Asians that much, and are very unfriendly in general is to avoid accidentally revealing that they can read minds. If all over a billion Asians where to show facial expressions all the time just as much as non Asians, integrate and associate with non Asians much more, and be much more friendly and talkative, then a lot of them might accidentally reveal that they can read minds by accidentally showing a facial expression or dirty look when someone thinks, or visually pictures something in their mind they don’t like, find astonishing
