I know that feel too. The only type of ice cream I can fully enjoy is soft-serve, because it is more of a pudding than an ice cream.
But since, at least to my knowledge, soft serve is domestically available in the summer by local vendors, I am forever in a cesspool of hatred for all other seasons.
Fuck you winter.

That's a good point, but I think due to the insane amount of stupidity, sexism and homophobes that still exist, we should continue to spit things like this in their face. There's a fine line between respecting one's beliefs and keeping quiet while people continue to be stupid.

First: "Scandals" sell.
Second: "A million moms" is an organisation. You know, from a Disney Channel TV show called "Good luck charlie", there's one episode which briefly contains a family with two moms. They are protesting against it. Lemme quote something from their page:
"Disney has decided to be politically correct instead of providing family-friendly programming. Disney should stick to entertaining, not pushing an agenda."
They want people to stop sponsering Disney TV because they put in a family with two moms. For a little joke that ended with "I forgot: She had TWO moms!"

Yes, JCPenny does get more attention trough it. Positive attention, because these conservative bullshit families are gonna throw a fit.

from the fact that a shit ton of people are boycotting any companies that are openly pro gay marriage, they do run a risk with it.
however, theres still a majority of people who are either pro gay and will keep shopping there, or just don't care and will keep shopping there
#187 - inkydot (03/06/2014) [-]
I agree but from the point of view of a company that's a decent bit in potential sales they've lost.

I think it's more the spectacle of a company not going "Oh shit we'll lose some customers, better remove everything" and instead sticking to their guns... In this day and age it's not really interesting, but a lot of people still have this Scrooge McDuck view of all CEOs everywhere...

#172 - anon (03/06/2014) [-]
Still a funny response. The point is we don't really care that they did this cause we accept it, so we don't see JC Penny as anything special, but the people who are anti-gay marriage probably really hate it.
User avatar
#171 - mistafishy (03/06/2014) [-]
The margin isn't as vast as you might think, unfortunately.

Pro-Gay is in the lead, though.

User avatar
#170 - zeroqp (03/06/2014) [-]
I respect them tremdously for doing this, because if you are in charge of the company image, you can either decide to go with neutral low-ground just to play it safe - because why risk alienating customers?, or you can decide to be controversial and represent the company's views on such subjects. So when it comes to a company, I would say it does matter. That's why I do belive that they are courageous.
User avatar
#166 - prepared (03/06/2014) [-]
I don't have the statistics or anything, but I'm pretty sure there are more Americans that don't support gay marriage over those who do(not by much though.)

Celebrating pro homosexuality is a good way to encourage homophobic people to turn over/popularize homosexuality so no one has to "hide in the closet" because of insecurity reasons.
#154 - fecal (03/06/2014) [-]
Nobody is, it is just remarkable that a company is willing to drop some of its customer base in order to stick to it's principles. Even though those principle where probably created in order to attract a new customer base, it's better than them dropping it immediately in fear of bad press

It's one of those things that shouldn't be a big deal, but it is. There is no reason for these companies to support any amount of political issues, it is still a huge risk. They don't have to but the do not for business but because it's something they believe in. And that's how we get over this thing. So yes we should support them.

That's not completely true. It's still around half and half, just those who are against same sex marriage are generally older and so the opposition is literally dying out. I believe now, about 80% of teens and young adults support it.

I fully understand what you're saying. I Just think it's a little too early to worry about over-promoting gay marriage. Also, are you really sure a vast majority of americans are pro gay marriage? isn't it just the internet that is pro gay marriage?
User avatar
#103 - nigeltheoutlaw (03/06/2014) [-]
It's only like sixty percent of America. I wouldn't call that a "vast majority".
#94 - anon (03/06/2014) [-]
Did you not read the part where 1,000,000 moms boycotted over this? Also there's only 50% of Americans who think Gay marriage should be legal so yeah it's kind of ballsy to do this sort of thing.

#84 - desuforeverlulz (03/06/2014) [-]
The thing is, we're all glad to those companies for acknowledging it, and for JCPenny delivering a righteous "fuck you" to the opposing side.
#70 - morskoj (03/06/2014) [-]
I'm not acting like that. Who's acting like that? Tumblr? They always act like that.
This is just a post about a minority of women being given the middle finger by a clothing store. There's no holier-than-thou message being made by them, just tumblr.
#67 - quackyquack (03/06/2014) [-]
Although you're right saying that most Americans support same-sex marriage it is definitely not a "vast majority."
This image is from the NYT, and is very similar to the more credible Gallup poll of the same sort.
User avatar
#61 - amsel (03/06/2014) [-]
The best part of it now is that most of the companies that do things like this benefit from it in the end. So it's just clever marketing and taking advantage of a movement, not really "being courageous" at all.
User avatar
#52 - screamy (03/06/2014) [-]
I think it's more of a, glad to see a giant company saying fuck you to idiots instead of cowering and apologizing, kinda thing.
#48 - ohemgeezus (03/06/2014) [-]
I don't really think the point is that they support homophobia, but that they supported it, got bombed by these shitty moms and then did it again to spite them. Most companies if bashed for something would send out an apology and then keep things "politically correct" for a while.

At least that's what I got outta it.

I'm not impressed they have these beliefs, I'm impressed they're willing to potentially lose money over them. Most people are pro-gay marriage, I don't know how many would be willing to lose their money over it.
Not that they probably lost a whole lot of money over it, but they could have just assured themselves no losses by listening to angry homophobes.
