So what happened to the other hotspots? The only one that seems to be running is the east Asia one.
User avatar #2027 to #2025 - ecomp (11/03/2014) [-]
I only have two players, so Imma wait another day or two.

Well I hope the people who haven't gotten to start yet get some kind of bonus or something to offset the disadvantage.
User avatar #2029 to #2028 - ecomp (11/03/2014) [-]
Meh. That's how it happens IRL ya know?
User avatar #2020 - tmstyrant (11/02/2014) [-]
Should other players know the stats of other nations in their area or is that confidential?
User avatar #2024 to #2020 - ecomp (11/03/2014) [-]
yes.
User avatar #2021 to #2020 - feelythefeel (11/02/2014) [-]
I was mainly asking about if RP wise I'm aware of other nations or not.
User avatar #2023 to #2021 - ecomp (11/03/2014) [-]
yes, only in your hotspot
User avatar #2026 to #2023 - feelythefeel (11/03/2014) [-]
Thanks.
User avatar #2022 to #2021 - feelythefeel (11/02/2014) [-]
And when I do become aware of them.

So I have a problem. I assumed we were doing a round a day like last time, so I left for a dinner party. Apparently there was more than one round a day, and the rest of the session happened without me. Anything I can do about that?

funnyjunk.com/user/ecomp/2011#2011

ionno. I'll have to talk to him about it...
User avatar #2013 to #2012 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
So are we rolling back, or are we keeping these rounds? If we're keeping them I'd like to make them up.

i dunno. I'll have to talk to him about it

User avatar #2017 to #2016 - ecomp (10/30/2014) [-]
K thats good.
User avatar #2018 to #2017 - tmstyrant (10/30/2014) [-]
did you only want to one round of rolls per day?
User avatar #2019 to #2018 - ecomp (10/30/2014) [-]
yeah, kinda like how we did it in 2.0
User avatar #1994 to #1862 - ecomp (10/29/2014) [-]
Expansion rolls - Expansion takes place like this. For each point that was rolled for an expansion attempt, the player gains 2 pixels of space. The amount of pixels gained is modified by the multiplier. If a player rolled 5, and had a multiplier of 0.7, the player would get 7 total pixels in the expansion. As I am normalizing technology growth to make it less important in this new game, the amount of pixels gained per point will slowly grow over time.
User avatar #1996 to #1994 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
Are you going to adjust that for distortion? schnizel's hotspot, for example, is much larger than ours. A pixel on ours is a fraction of a pixel on their's.

tmstyrant
User avatar #1997 to #1996 - tmstyrant (10/30/2014) [-]
yeah, we will also we expanding our map faster, but I plan on decreasing it by a third.
User avatar #1999 to #1997 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
Also, are we still using the rule where dedicating multiple numbers to an expansion roll will limitlessly improve the effective expansion? Or is that changed?
User avatar #2001 to #1999 - tmstyrant (10/30/2014) [-]
it counts as a expansion roll and as far as I know you can still add roll together
User avatar #1998 to #1997 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
Decreasing what by a third?
User avatar #2000 to #1998 - tmstyrant (10/30/2014) [-]
The total pixel count after calculation, so if you were supposed to get 10 pixels your get 7 instead.
User avatar #2003 to #2000 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
Shouldn't it me the opposite since our hotspot is smaller?
User avatar #2006 to #2003 - tmstyrant (10/30/2014) [-]
okay so you get what you get, we will just expand when it gets a tad crowed
User avatar #2002 to #2000 - ecomp (10/30/2014) [-]
don't do that. The map is just a representation of the World, it isn't THE world, it just looks like it. It doesn't need to be edited for distortion.
User avatar #2004 to #2002 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
But the hotspots are magnified images.
User avatar #2007 to #2004 - ecomp (10/30/2014) [-]
They're not. They are the same size as what that area is on the full world map. It's a cropped image.
User avatar #2009 to #2007 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]
Sorry.
User avatar #2008 to #2007 - feelythefeel (10/30/2014) [-]

User avatar #1905 to #1862 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I was getting rid of tech because I don't feel that inventing cars or electricity were really a national effort, but more of an individual effort that could happen to anybody from any country spontaneously.
User avatar #1906 to #1905 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
alright well I think thats it then I am picking up what you are putting down
User avatar #1907 to #1906 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Now I just hope that schnizel is good to go.

Do you understand hotspots?
User avatar #1956 to #1907 - schnizel (10/26/2014) [-]
yes
#1987 to #1956 - ecomp (10/28/2014) [-]

User avatar #1988 to #1987 - feelythefeel (10/28/2014) [-]
Well now I'm torn.On the one hand, I don't want to play another game in Europe and I'm prepared to play in Asia. On the other, schnizel is a bro.

Decisions like this truly stick with you.

User avatar #1910 to #1907 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
yeah areas people have to start right?
User avatar #1912 to #1910 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Yep. 1 GM for 1 Hotspot. Where do you want to GM? Schnizel has Europe (I need you to clarify where in Europe, the hotspots won't be that big) And I have Mesopotamia.
User avatar #1957 to #1912 - schnizel (10/26/2014) [-]
Europe would be just fine.
User avatar #1914 to #1912 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
Well what hot spots are available?
User avatar #1916 to #1914 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Anywhere not in Europe or Mesopotamia. You can go for somewhere in the Americas, but I'd rather put that off until later.
#1931 to #1916 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
So its bigger but includes a lot of water, has coast of china all of korea and a good starting point for japan
#1935 to #1931 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Example: This is my hotspot.
#1942 to #1935 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
Can't figure out how to enlarge it without decreasing the quality
User avatar #1945 to #1942 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
How long have you been on FJ? Click the picture and it brings up an enlarged version of it.
User avatar #1947 to #1945 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
not what I mean, if I upload a small pic with high res the enlarge only shows a small pick
User avatar #1948 to #1947 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I'll just download it and enlarge on my own screen. If you upload the one you have that's ~150 x 150 then it should look like funnyjunk.com/user/ecomp/1935#1935
User avatar #1949 to #1948 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
So my question is how are you getting a clear picture by just enlarging it? There are still the same amount of pixels in mine hence the grainy look, yours looks like when you zoomed you added pixels
User avatar #1950 to #1949 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
What image editting program do you use?
User avatar #1951 to #1950 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
paint, or photoshop. mainly paint...all paint
User avatar #1952 to #1951 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
getpaint.net/

this is free, no viruses, and is 1000x better than paint. Not that steep of a learning curve either.

User avatar #1981 to #1980 - feelythefeel (10/28/2014) [-]
I'd recommend using the picture of the hotspot you posted. I think it would work better.
#1978 to #1953 - ecomp (10/28/2014) [-]
yep. Make sure to enlarge it before saving.
User avatar #1982 to #1978 - tmstyrant (10/28/2014) [-]
I was born ready
User avatar #1975 to #1953 - feelythefeel (10/28/2014) [-]
That was your problem then. Click the image to expand it before saving it.
User avatar #1972 to #1953 - ecomp (10/28/2014) [-]
I think you saved the thumbnail.
User avatar #1971 to #1953 - ecomp (10/28/2014) [-]

nein
User avatar #1967 to #1953 - ecomp (10/28/2014) [-]
I still don't know how yours is becoming blurred. Are you resizing it? You shouldn't need to resize it. Walk me through your steps.
User avatar #1969 to #1967 - tmstyrant (10/28/2014) [-]
rectangle select
crop
expand
gets blurry pic.

using yours I get a really small pic
#1964 to #1953 - ecomp (10/27/2014) [-]
I don't know what you are doing. I choose "rectangle select", draw a rectangle around the area, copy it, make new document, paste it. Here are results. Are you using paint.net ?
#1968 to #1964 - tmstyrant (10/28/2014) [-]
When I follow your directions this is what I get
User avatar #1966 to #1964 - tmstyrant (10/28/2014) [-]

User avatar #1965 to #1964 - ecomp (10/27/2014) [-]

k no prob
#1963 to #1962 - tmstyrant (10/27/2014) [-]
This is the best I can do, any tips on how I can make it less fuzzy?
User avatar #1960 to #1953 - ecomp (10/27/2014) [-]
Do you have your map cropped?
User avatar #1961 to #1960 - tmstyrant (10/27/2014) [-]
**** sorry, writing a paper right now
User avatar #1958 to #1953 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
So have you got a map worked outÉ
User avatar #1954 to #1953 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
tyvm
User avatar #1934 to #1931 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
You saved the thumbnail. I meant crop it yourself.
User avatar #1936 to #1934 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
Well i saved the thumbnail that you gave and place the maker in the beijing area
User avatar #1937 to #1936 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I meant make an actual map that you would use as the GM.
User avatar #1918 to #1916 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
I guess Eastern Asia, so China/korea/Vietnam/ Russia ect
#1920 to #1918 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
These are going to be fairly small. The red square in the corner is the size of the starting hotspots. If your area has lots of water in it, I could make it slightly larger. Where exactly in East Asia?
User avatar #1926 to #1920 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
do the beijing area then, it will let people do china, japan, korea ****
User avatar #1924 to #1920 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
Just in the Hong Kong area then
#1927 to #1924 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
you know what, just make the map yourself. Make it's dimensions around 150 x 150. That way you don't have to tell me where to make it, and you get it exactly where you want it.
User avatar #1928 to #1927 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
I'm starting to think we need to make the hotspots bigger.
User avatar #1929 to #1928 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
They get bigger when people expand their countries. This is just to throw a bunch of people in the same place so they interact. Otherwise we'd have what we had last time, with everybody half the world away from each other.
User avatar #1930 to #1929 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
That makes sense, but can't we st least give people a little more room to breath? With everyone being this close we'll either not be able to expand at all how we want or we'll just be forced to give other players the axe left and right.
User avatar #1932 to #1930 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
This is the point.
User avatar #1933 to #1932 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
So what does a player do when they're axed?
User avatar #1938 to #1933 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
start a civil war, make a new country, or stop playing
User avatar #1940 to #1938 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Or, another example, if I wanted to liberate an area.
User avatar #1944 to #1940 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
yeah
User avatar #1946 to #1944 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Okay, I think that's all for now. Thanks.
User avatar #1941 to #1940 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Liberating an area would just be supporting the newly created nation in a civil war.
If someone leaves, their country will remain but will not be able to do anything. If others want to take it over, the stagnant nation counts as having rolled a 3 for all war rolls, and get bonuses for any military score they have.
User avatar #1943 to #1941 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Is a new player trying to join needed for a civil war to start?
User avatar #1939 to #1938 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Okay. Just remembered a question I wanted to ask, is there anything of a system for NPC nations? Say, if someone left without being axed or if someone wanted to make puppet states?
User avatar #1925 to #1924 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Any chance you could make it the Beijing area?
User avatar #1865 to #1862 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
So you get everything?
User avatar #1897 to #1865 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
schnizel read this thread
User avatar #1955 to #1897 - schnizel (10/26/2014) [-]
ok
User avatar #1868 to #1865 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
What are the stats for the XYZ? Do players choose the -3 to +3 ? How many pixels are in the map we are using, seems important to expansion.

The civil war seems a little steep, if I choose to make a country in another it looks like I can take like 80% of their land which would piss people off
User avatar #1873 to #1868 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I did the calculations on the civil war thing, and the most you can possibly take is 48.1% of the old country's land.
User avatar #1876 to #1873 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
It's actually 59% if it's an "unhappy" country.
User avatar #1875 to #1873 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
lol I closed FJ, so that makes sense so far. What are the thresholds for success? Are we doing critical success or failures?

Say I want to build a road between towns, do we have a infrastructure muiltpler, technology?
User avatar #1879 to #1875 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
If you have better thoughts on how to implement physical actions, I'd like to hear it.
User avatar #1880 to #1879 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Especially because I'm not that happy about it as it is.
User avatar #1878 to #1875 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Building roads between towns will pretty much boost State Happiness, but that's about it.
User avatar #1877 to #1875 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
This game is not going to be as focused on technology and building things as the other one, and instead will be focused on politics moreso.
User avatar #1882 to #1877 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
or just focus all in the political, you get a stat that you can increase but not in a specific way. So you can increase your infrastructure stat which helps state happiness and i guess your armies response time but cant be specific.
User avatar #1881 to #1877 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
Thats a better idea. Rather than letting people choose each and every thing they do we could provide general options. Such as infrastructure, research, military etc. Then they could provide a direction they wish to go and the roll determines if that happens.

Ex. I choose Infrastructure- expand plumbing in cities and roll a 2. I have a multipler of 1.3 since I am a dirty commie. 2 x 1.3= 2.6 which is a failure. At this point it could be regular or critical fail. regular fail= project starts but not finished +2 to next roll or somthing. crit fail= pipes explode feces everywhere.
User avatar #1883 to #1881 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Actually, I had it so that Efficiency (Autocracy +, Democracy -) would modify rolls like that. Infrastructure modifies rolls for Expansion, and Authority modifies rolls for War-related things (Totalitarianism +, Anarchism -).
User avatar #1884 to #1883 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
I like that better. Are we going to let people be specific on what they do or have to choose from options provided when it comes to research, infrastructure? Do we just read what they write and their roll and decided what multipliers are used?
User avatar #1885 to #1884 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
We don't need them to be specific, we can just decide what they mean when they write something.
If they write "Found new cities along the coast", that's an expansion roll. (Infrastructure)
If they write "Improve roads between towns", that's a normal roll. (Efficiency)
If they write "Attack neighbouring country on West Front", that's a war roll (Authority)

How do we determine the economic, military, and happiness stats?
User avatar #1887 to #1886 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I wrote this up. The Economy, Military, and Happiness stats are really the only stats that can be added to. I think you may have a skewed view of the system right now due to my poor wording in the other posts.

Stats - These stats are built up using rolls.

Economy - Can be spent to improve rolls by a certain number.
Military - Is added to rolls when invading other countries/defending your own country. Must be split up amongst offensive/defensive fronts. 1 Military point is spent per turn that you are in 1 conflict.
Happiness - Determines if your country can be plunged into Civil War or not.

Political Stats - Your XYZ determines the score for these stats. These stats can be ranging from 0.7 to 1.3

Finance - Multiplies Economy stat by Finance Stat
Infrastucture - Multiplies Expansion rolls by Infrastructure Stat
Stability - Used to determine Civil War Power
Efficiency - Multiplier for normal rolls by Efficiency Stat
Authority - Multiplier for war-related rolls by Authourity Stat
Freedom - Multiplier for Happiness stat by Freedom Stat

ok so my question is then how do we determine the E M H stats? Can they choose to build it up or is it a byproduct of rolls that are Pol based?

Also what number is our threshold for success on rolls? or do we decided that based on the what they want to do?
User avatar #1892 to #1889 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
E M H are the only stats that can be built up.

A roll to make more jobs would be +E
A roll for a trade mission would be +E
A roll to raise an army would be +M
A roll to improve weapons would be +M
A roll to improve roads would be +H
A roll to construct a large Cathedral would be +H

everybody starts with 0 to begin with.
User avatar #1893 to #1892 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
alright, so everyone chooses their pol stats then rolls are based on them, these rolls can increase the EMH stats. How does a country change their pol stats or are they stuck with what they choose? They could choose to start a revolt to attempt a pol stat change but that comes with the negatives of course
User avatar #1895 to #1893 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Either that, or they need another player to Civil War and take over all their land.
User avatar #1894 to #1893 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
To change pol stats, they say what axis they want to change in which direction, and roll. For every success, it changes 1 point towards their goal, or on a crit success, 2 points toward their goal, or on a crit failure, 1 point in the opposite direction. Of course, when they are already at 3 or -3, it can't go back anymore.

Example
A 0,0,0 nation wants to be -3,-3,-3.

Turn 1.
*ecomp rolls 36740*
1-3: Change X to -3
4: Change Y to -3
5. Change Z to -3

1 doesn't succeed, so X remains 0.
2 succeeds, so X moves to -1.
3 succeeds, so X moves to -2.
4 doesn't succeed, so Y remains 0.
5 crit succeeded, so Z moves to -2.

They will then have to roll to change it further next turn.

i worry about people boosting their authority before invading to increase their multiplier for war. Gaming the system rather than playing their nation
User avatar #1898 to #1896 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
This is why free countries have to worry about other countries becoming authoritarian, and join forces with other free countries to put down authoritarian countries.
User avatar #1899 to #1898 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
well authoritarian countries could do the same and steam roll everyone
User avatar #1902 to #1899 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
So just rolls to improve military
User avatar #1901 to #1899 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
What about just recruitment rolls?
User avatar #1904 to #1901 - tmstyrant (10/26/2014) [-]
Yeah but tech should play apart or we can have ages and every country in the same age "bronze" are considered to have the same tech
User avatar #1891 to #1889 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I'm going to get rid of improving chances with a slightly bad roll just to make it easier.
User avatar #1890 to #1889 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
1-5 = fail 6-0 = success
1 = crit fail (apply negative result) 0 = crit success (apply result twice)
User avatar #1888 to #1887 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I might change Finance to be a multiplier to rolls to improve Economy.
User avatar #1872 to #1868 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
There are roughly 1,400,000 land pixels on the map that you can take over, so it's going to be fairly big and allow for a lot of countries to join in.
User avatar #1874 to #1872 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Expansion rate will grow as time passes.
User avatar #1871 to #1868 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
When a nation comes into existance they can choose their XYZ as they wish, and can further change it by succeeding rolls to change it by 1 degree in 1 direction per success.

Skype is ******* up again after I thought it was working again.

[6:24:47 PM] ecomp: Anyways
[6:25:12 PM] ecomp: They respresent the multiplyers for the other stats listed below
[6:26:17 PM] ecomp: If you have a 3 on X, itmeans you are very Communist. So that means the Finance stat will be 0.7, while the Infrastructure stat will be 1.3
[6:26:24 PM] ecomp: It works like a balance beam

Please read this thread www.funnyjunk.com/user/caffeinecommissar/409#409

I'll try to put all of it into an organized document soon. If you have any questions you can ask here or on the skype chat.

User avatar #1909 to #1908 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Not tonight. I have other things to do shortly.
User avatar #1911 to #1909 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Okay, hope things can get going soon. Another question, what are the first hotspots going to be? Will I be able to start from the beginning if I want to be Egypt? What about China?
User avatar #1913 to #1911 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
So far we have somewhere in Europe and Mesopotamia.

Egypt will not be a starting location, but in the West of Mesopotamia you can start close to the Sinai Peninsula.
User avatar #1915 to #1913 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Personally, I'd think it'd make more sens to have the first hotspots in Mesopotamia and the far east, since those are the locations of the oldest empires (As far as I know), but it's your call. Should I wait until more hotspots are introduced or should I get some new ideas? Where in Europe is the first hotspot?
User avatar #1917 to #1915 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
Don't forget Greece. That had some of the oldest, and definitely older than the Far East. But I don't know where schnizel is planning to do it in Europe, cuz the start locations are going to be pretty small, and there's no way it can cover all of Europe in one hotspot.
User avatar #1919 to #1917 - feelythefeel (10/26/2014) [-]
Then please get back to me when you find out where Schnizel's hosting. Unless we get some more hotspots going quickly, I think I'll just invent some new ideas for a nation to play.
User avatar #1921 to #1919 - ecomp (10/26/2014) [-]
I think I'm going to start with just schnizel and tmstyrant. I think he's planning on East Asia right now, but I'm not sure where exactly.
