Corporate greed isn't even actually the problem because that IS the economics of capitalism. "he who has the most money wins" is literally capitalism in a single statement.

Part of that is why 'trickle down economics' is complete bullshit, because when you describe the process of that 'trickle down' effect, you are simultaneously describing something else, more commonly known by another name. That name is 'inefficiency'. Paying people more money than you have to is 'inefficient' and cuts into the bottom line. So you don't hire more people, you don't give raises, you don't give bonuses, you have a surplus of labor so if someone complains you find a reason to fire them and hire someone else.

And that, again, isn't corporate greed. its their method of survival in the system. They need money to pay for any expenses, the more money they have the longer they live, the more they can make from a given expense the less they 'need' to make elsewhere, but at the same time the more they have to keep themselves going.

It has only one conclusion: complete automation of production with no one capable of buying stuff. So, take that excess savings that are normally pocketed and simply distribute it across the populace. They have money to buy stuff, so products are bought, so profits go up.

And if at this point you ask, "then why don't we just give people stuff" then I have a term you can google: Natural Law/Resource-based Economy.

This is more of a problem of corporate greed than minimum wage.
User avatar #358 - dwraith (07/14/2015) [-]
Except in this equation, corporate greed is a constant, and minimum wage is not.

The company will want profits to be above X no matter what, and if they're forced to pay their workers more, the solution is less workers.

One of the main premises of economics is that corporations want to maximize profits, and that won't change.

Im not bait, i just think that the harder it is for someone to kill you, the less likely it is going to happen. Not having access to firearms makes the whole deal of killing someone much harder and thus most people are discouraged from it. For example, the gang fight recently happening in Texas. If that people hadnt had access to firearms, the bar fight would have resulted in punches thrown, probably lots of stabbings (less lethal), and all in all less people death.

Also it is important (at least here in Europe, we dont believe all that "right to bear arms" thing) to note that when only the police has access to weapons, being a criminal is something scarier, because whatever you do they can always shoot you. In USA, the police dont have that edge over the criminals. Continuing on the Texas case, if a gang fight erupted, the bar calls the police, and being they the only ones having weapons, it is much easier to reduce the fight and arrest the culprits, because police have guns and they dont.

Now I know that USA mentality is different from the one we have here and you feel that every citizen has right to the most freedom possible, and the idea of the police being superior to citizens in that aspect is scary to the American mentality because you believe that if the government controls all the guns, then they can abuse their power. It is just different ways of living, I respect that. But it is a fact that allowing guns to be sold to the general public makes for a higher crime rate.

Unfortunately or fortunately (how ever you want to interpret it) it is rarely the opinion of the few that matters in the context of social structure and influence. Many people are interested in the private lives and opinions of Hollywood actors and as long as the word many continues to mean "more than the few", their opinions will always matter.
