Well, it might not be so far fetched, my micro econ instructor lived in africa for a long time, he is convinced that he has seen a cure for AIDs, he never mentioned something about Ebola but i'm sure he wouldn't be too skeptical.
I don't know If i believe him, but he certainly wasn't joking, and I don't believe he would lie. So I'm on the edge.

Like I said, I'm on the edge, we have the technology to create such cures, but have we? I don't know, he claims to have seen people with terminal illness cured and recover in years after being big brother administered unknown untested drugs. Am I taking his word as fact? Most certainly not, I have a healthy skepticism. But the technology isn't out of our reach, who knows, maybe he did see a cure for AIDs that had been created by some medical company but had to be used in africa because no one there has any sense of medical practice and they just take drugs if you say it works.
tl;dr I am skeptical about what he said, but it isn't out of our technological reach.

Yea, i don't really think its out of our reach either, but the science behind all of that stuff is difficult. The whole problem is dealing with viruses in general, we don't really have any effective means of combating them. I imagine that someone is on to something. I would guess that if we had some means of attacking viruses without causing to much harm to the body that someone would be raking in the money though. I would like to not ever get a cold sore or worry about contracting genital herpes :/. Money tends to be a big issue though. Personally, I think its nuts that we billions of dollars go to things like athletes that just merely provide entertainment when it could be going to research. But then again, I fork over money to video game makers, so I suppose that sentence is hypocritical.

Well, we are all guilty of keeping money for ourselves, athletes get money because people want to watch the sport, I would like to go after politicians who make hand over fist money because they don't have to follow all the rules because of their status in government. Like the US congress and insider trading.

No, if any pharma company had come across a drug that was deemed safe they would be selling it to the nations affected for profit, not hiding it. There is no genocidal conspiracy against poor Africans.

Wheres the profit? Poor African countries with poor African victims? There aren't even 2000 recorded cases of the disease. Pharmaceutical companies are just that, companies, based off making a profit. It is perfectly likely that they would sit on a cure for a non-profitable illness. If a large-scale outbreak occurs in a wealthier area such as Atlanta, however, they could come out with the "new-found" cure. The scare from such a close to home outbreak would make the new Ebola vaccine commonplace etc.
Not blurting out conspiracy theories, I don't think the doctor was brought to Atlanta to spread the virus..Just providing an example in which coming out with a cure/vaccine would actually be profitable.

It probably was. The american doctor, while hospitalized and dying, took the experimental serum (that was specifically developed for Ebola) and was standing up the next day.
Basically whats going on with the ebola outbreak is we have an experimental drug that cured this doctor practically overnight, and now the Africans want it.
He DEFINITELY had ebola.
