That view completely neglects to tackle the reasons people commit crimes. Sure there may be some small group who are evil greedy inherent criminals but I'll wager the vast majority are desperate, or perhaps were coerced into it by other criminals, or gang leaders, etc. Many do not know a way of life outside of crime and do not see a way to make any significant money legally because all the systems screw them over at every turn.

What this 'solution' attempts to do is make people more scared of the police than of living in poverty; more scared of being shot than of not being able to provide for their family.
Wouldn't a far better solution be to set systems up so that far fewer people ever get so desperate that they consider turning to crime or joining a gang?

Just a quick fact: in Saudi Arabia drug use, possession and dealing is very often met with execution. Funnily, people still do drugs there. Systems of excessive punishment to instigate fear simply don't work. That's even before the fact that disproportionate punishment is not justice, its tyrany.

Statistics show that most criminals are career criminals. 3/5 prisoners throughout the US are arrested and jailed (meaning that they were found guilty) for the same crime that got them locked up in the first place within 5 years of being released. 2/5 return within 3 years. 45% of criminals currently in prison are repeat offenders.

People aren't criminals because they're desperate. Desperate and honest people ask for money. Desperate people beg, or try to do good for their community. A lot of homeless people may be druggies, drunkards, or mentally unstable, but at least most of them are not mugging or robbing people.

Criminality is a very deep issue, but criminals are certainly not good people in the wrong place at the wrong time. Criminals, especially people willing to commit armed robbery, are horrible people that not only contribute nothing to society, they also make society difficult to live in.

The solution? Less child abuse. Less yelling, less spanking, less "unparenting," less single parenthood. More reasoning, more teaching, more empathy and care, and just in general more parents willing to go the extra mile to actually be a good parent, and less bad people becoming parents.

It's arguable that most of the reason the black community in the US has such a high crime rate is because the welfare state allows and even encourages single parenthood and having children out of wedlock, and discouraging hard work. It's pretty much impossible for the average Joe to open up their own business. Imagine how hard it is for somebody born to a single mother in the ghetto that's been living off of welfare and crime and drugs to hide the pain and guns to take out their anger on anybody but themselves.

The solution is something that a Government can't fix. You can't just offload your problems onto some politician and expect them to care. You have to take action. You have to have the responsibility and more importantly courage to step up and be the best person you can be, even if that means pissing evil people, and sometimes even good people off. That's something that no Politician, no Bureaucrat, no Policeman can give to society. That's something that has to happen from the inside out.

but these robbers are far from the joker, and 1 crime should not equal a death sentence. not every criminal thinks about resorting back to crime the instant they get out.

My outlook on it is if you're willing to point a gun at someone's face, you're willing to kill them.

And if you're willing to kill, you better be damn sure you're ready to die
