That view completely neglects to tackle the reasons people commit crimes. Sure there may be some small group who are evil greedy inherent criminals but I'll wager the vast majority are desperate, or perhaps were coerced into it by other criminals, or gang leaders, etc. Many do not know a way of life outside of crime and do not see a way to make any significant money legally because all the systems screw them over at every turn.

What this 'solution' attempts to do is make people more scared of the police than of living in poverty; more scared of being shot than of not being able to provide for their family.
Wouldn't a far better solution be to set systems up so that far fewer people ever get so desperate that they consider turning to crime or joining a gang?

Just a quick fact: in Saudi Arabia drug use, possession and dealing is very often met with execution. Funnily, people still do drugs there. Systems of excessive punishment to instigate fear simply don't work. That's even before the fact that disproportionate punishment is not justice, its tyrany.

Statistics show that most criminals are career criminals. 3/5 prisoners throughout the US are arrested and jailed (meaning that they were found guilty) for the same crime that got them locked up in the first place within 5 years of being released. 2/5 return within 3 years. 45% of criminals currently in prison are repeat offenders.

People aren't criminals because they're desperate. Desperate and honest people ask for money. Desperate people beg, or try to do good for their community. A lot of homeless people may be druggies, drunkards, or mentally unstable, but at least most of them are not mugging or robbing people.

Criminality is a very deep issue, but criminals are certainly not good people in the wrong place at the wrong time. Criminals, especially people willing to commit armed robbery, are horrible people that not only contribute nothing to society, they also make society difficult to live in.

The solution? Less child abuse. Less yelling, less spanking, less "unparenting," less single parenthood. More reasoning, more teaching, more empathy and care, and just in general more parents willing to go the extra mile to actually be a good parent, and less bad people becoming parents.

It's arguable that most of the reason the black community in the US has such a high crime rate is because the welfare state allows and even encourages single parenthood and having children out of wedlock, and discouraging hard work. It's pretty much impossible for the average Joe to open up their own business. Imagine how hard it is for somebody born to a single mother in the ghetto that's been living off of welfare and crime and drugs to hide the pain and guns to take out their anger on anybody but themselves.

The solution is something that a Government can't fix. You can't just offload your problems onto some politician and expect them to care. You have to take action. You have to have the responsibility and more importantly courage to step up and be the best person you can be, even if that means pissing evil people, and sometimes even good people off. That's something that no Politician, no Bureaucrat, no Policeman can give to society. That's something that has to happen from the inside out.

but these robbers are far from the joker, and 1 crime should not equal a death sentence. not every criminal thinks about resorting back to crime the instant they get out.

Illegal search as seizure is a fucking joke. If a cop THINKS he smells weed he can search a car. If a cop THINKS he hears a scream he can enter a house. Ever heard of stop and frisk? You can search anyone at anytime.

thank you i working for a cleaning crew that does concerts this one guy was over drunk and asked to leave so he took out his phone and start arguing with the police and the owner saying they couldnt kick him out and while the cops stood there and let him rant people near me watch kept saying the cop was abusing his authority shut him down with 3 facts
A. the owner has the right to refuse service to anyone and the cops where enforcing that
B. the cops have not touched him just barred him from entering again
c. if the of did let him in and the guy hit some say you (the person complaining) do you want the cops to do something or stand there and not "abuse his authority"

But if you understand the fundamental reasons why something happens then you can find ways of preventing it from happening again. Yes, treating cancer in the late stages is important, but we can fight it even more effectively by understanding why and how it happens and then solving that problem.
User avatar #17 - fuzzyballs (07/16/2015) [-]
I'm fairly certain the joker is beyond that
User avatar #18 - greyhoundfd (07/16/2015) [-]
But if you kill the joker or figure out how to treat him then you aren't eliminating the potential for yet another to be created somewhere else. The point of having all knowledge is not to play an eternal game of whack-a-mole with the world's worst criminal.

While the Killing Joke is incredible, and flushes out his back story in a satisfying way. I believe the joker's back story defeats his character's being. In the recent comics, they've introduced the twist that the joker is an internal being that has been living forever, and this Batman VS Joker thing has been going on since the start of man, and while this is interesting and certainly original, I don't think ether stories capture the character. Joker can't have a backstory, because it's beyond him. Finding out any one detail can hurt his character so much. He's the antithesis of Batman, and maybe because of that he is not allowed to have anything known about him. Unlike Batman who has every detailed explained. Joker is essentially pure chaos, and chaos will never have an explanation.
