I haven't seen too much in defense of the humanities. I wrote my original post in response to those that seem to think that everyone who has a humanities degree or who works in a related field is of no benefit to society. I think there are far too many people who go into humanities without a strategy for what they are gong to do with their life. They spend 4 years studying Tahitian underwater basket weaving and are shocked when they can't find gainful employment. I went into it knowing that I would never be rich, but I would do something that I enjoy. I have actually studied the effect of my work quantitatively, and their is a measurable positive effect of the work I do on sales. That is no where near as important as advancing research that could save lives but it is not worthless.

Humans are by nature greedy. When someone says for example "I want to change the world.", they're talking about world peace/utopia, and hardly considering that their world is far smaller than that. Most people hardly ever leave their city/neighborhood. I've lived in this state for 18 years now, and I hardly know anything about my immediate neighborhood let alone my town.

TL;DR: Everyone wants more than they can ever appreciate.

I've seen a few of them, but I don't read them regularly. No one is disputing that STEM graduates make a difference in the world. Those in STEM on average have a much bigger impact then humanities in a technical sense. But their advancements cost money, and companies wouldn't make investments if they didn't think they could make a profit, which is difficult to do without effective marketing. Publicly funded pure research with no profit in mind does exist, but only due to a thriving economy that allows it to happen, which is again thanks in part to marketing.

I think the general argument coming from the disgruntled "humanities majors" is that their careers are limited in scope and don't pay nearly as well STEM. Marketing and business isn't for everyone.

I say "humanities majors", because I'm not really sure whether this represents a majority or a vocal minority.

No He gained further knowledge about the world and how the world works, strengthened relationships with people whom were previously hostile to him or indifferent. He does all this because of his love for Emilia. I honestly just watched to see if he'd eventually be rid of his curse and be able to explain to everyone what had happen, but if the anime continues to on maybe eventually it will lead up to that point where they stop the witch. Suburu does have a bit of magic power but it's largely underused and the 2nd time he used it he damaged his gate pretty badly. He has shadow magic.

Sort of, there are some dry spots. The Character slowly losing his mind from repetitive deaths and trying to keep track of different timelines, what he can say what he can't say, the fact he can't tell anyone about the curse placed upon him and watching him struggle in this new world while he slowly gets past each 'save point' makes it slightly more interesting if not entertaining to see the MC slowly self destruct and struggle in a new world which is the opposite of what most animes do with their mc, they usually just acquire hidden power and just always saves the day. Suburu constantly fucks up and has to figure a way to get further each time.

I read the manga and it stopped right when he finally managed to save emilia from the assassin.

I was wondering if he did gain any power? It was pretty bland with him just winging it and hoping he didn't die, but it was interesting and semi-realistic.
