I think it only comes off as obsessiveness because there's so many details and they are all important so everyone needs to know every detail in order to understand the story.

However yeah, I feel where your coming from, two years I ago I read about 30 pages and hated it, I gave it another try about 2 months ago and instantly fell in love.

I guess it's kind of like, the people who actually talk about it outside forums and groups for it (like myself I suppose) come of as obsessive, and the other people who really enjoy it but don't really plaster it everywhere aren't really heard so people don't know that fans can just read it and like it for themselves.

I think that's what it's like in every fandom, the only reason I'm more outspoken about it hear it because it's gaining a higher presence hear and it becoming more acceptable (HS fans used to be pariahs).

And now it seems like I'm frantically trying to defend myself and you've probably gained a less than favourable impression of me as a Homestuck fan...

yeah it's complicated as fuck, especially considering that Flushed and Caliginous are only two of four Quandrants that can define a troll relationship, there's also Pale which is basically best friends (sort of) and Ashen which is between 3 trolls where one of them is either playing matchmaker to get it into Flushed or peacekeeper to keep it out of Caliginous so the don't kill each other.

However as the story unfolds the trolls start to discover that humans don't have quandrants because it's basically just basic shit like Love, Hate, Best Friends, and Meddlers.

I'd honestly recommend reading Homestuck to fully understand it, it's pretty complicated and is used a lot in the story but also you don't even see the trolls until Act 5 and really unless you're legitimately interested in reading Homestuck there's not really a point to reading that far.

Personally I am addicted to Homestuck and currently dying for the next update so I'd def give my "yeah man, go for it" if you're even at all interested.

Well I suppose in the modern time buckets are just more efficient than something like a clay bowl or whatever. Essentially how it works is the trolls in either a flushed (love) or caliginous (hate) relationship ejaculate goo (depending on which it is, love or hate goo, determines which of two buckets go in, it also partly determines the children birthed from it's attitude) in buckets when an Imperial Drone comes, and then he takes it to the Mother Grub to be "fertilized" (fertilized was the best word I can think of)
