I remember the second book had me physically shaking at points because I was so scared, and Bec had a great narrative and Fellowship of the Ring-feel. Slawter was decent, but none of the later ones stood out especially for me.

Series ended with the three of them that had the parts of the Kabash(?) the other worldly power combining and basically becoming a God. They met in like a single room, from which they must watch all of time, but can intervene, which they do from time to time, like Bec saving herself, and Dervish ending up surviving with the hot chick as his girlfriend. But they couldn't just get rid of all the Demon's, because they were linked, so the one demon that had been pulling the strings behind the entire series and pushing the three together, Lord Loss, became basically the ruler of the demons in return for only coming through cracks in the reality, rather than whole portals like what happened in their timeline.

Conversation in spoilers, lol..
Ah yes. To be honest, I really liked the fact that Lord Loss still ended up partially winning. He was such a great villain. On the other hand, it feels really shitty that there's nothing the characters could have done to beat him...again, great series though.

Ultimately, your right. Gutts is a good guy. He'd never 'intently' kills the innocent or causes harm to those who didn't deserve it.
But he does have a lot of anti-hero tendencies; killing without hesitation (and enjoying it), massively negative attitude towards life (you REALLY can't blame him), issues with his father, loner, rarely speaks for any given length, horrible dreams and so forth.
These attributes persist throughout most of the story - ranging from mild to extreme.
He might be on the 'right' side; but he's defiantly not righteous.

I forgot about the original arcs. I was just going by the band of hawk and beyond, from where he grew up with a group, and just seemed like a normal protagonist/hero. For some reason I thought there was more story/chapters in the band of hawk arc than the original chapters, the hunt for Casca, and the new band of hawk all together. From a non-subjective viewpoint Gatts is most definitely an anti-hero, but from following him the entire time the more anti-hero like character I can think of is Skull Knight, where he's not on anyone else's side but his own.
