But I don't really see why it matters anyway, neither of us "stole" the idea, it was just an accident.

That's not an excuse. An artist doesn't make mistakes and then make excuses. An artist eliminates mistakes before they happen or at least doesn't allow them to get in the way of the piece, which the voices do.
It was forgivable in the Strangerhood or Red vs Blue because it was a bunch of guys without a budget operating out of their college dorm rooms, however even THEN they still delivered more natural dialogue than most of the characters in RWBY.
In fairness, that is the fault of the writing staff who write the series as though it were a dubbed anime, which is a freaking retarded problem to have because dubbed anime only sound forced because they're trying to translate a language that is wholly different in tone, pace, arrangement, detail, and context whilst keeping synched to the animation. But here it's 100% original dialogue and 100% original animation formed around the dialogue! It's not a justified mistake.
Then there's the humour! FFS they're trying to transfer the same comedic style of 2D drawn animation into 3D animated models (which is pretty much impossible given how the drawings will change form to emphasise the humour, something 3D models can't do anywhere near as easily) and then on top of that, they're trying to translate an eastern style of comedy that relies upon an eastern-style delivery of an eastern language into a western language! There's a reason why anime dubs, especially comedic ones, come across as disgustingly forced and they have NO excuse as to why this problem occurred within a 100% original western series!
I've not given up hope because the series is animated competently... for the most part. It's also FULL of creative visuals, as expected of Monty Oum. That alone won't be enough to save the series but I'd be lying if I said the first season of RvB still makes me laugh. It doesn't make me cringe and it has other values to it but it's not as good as their recent work. In time... who knows what RWBY may become.
