They don't outcompete anyone. I guarantee you a professional carpenter would build a shed better than an illegal Mexican. A professional groundskeeper would trim the hedges and mow a lawn better than some Mexican.
#121 - fefe (02/09/2013) [-]
Is he an illegal Mexican? People in this thread keep misunderstanding me, so it must be he way i'm stating my opinions. I'll try to clarify. I do not have a problem with legal immigrants who become legal citizens, I have a problem with the illegal immigrants. If he is a legal citizen and is Mexican, then I have no issue with him. He pays taxes, he's good. Illegal Immigrants do not pay taxes, yet live in this country. That is one of my many issues with illegal immigrants.
#123 - Ruspanic (02/09/2013) [-]
Most illegal immigrants do pay taxes, though. If they buy anything they pay sales taxes. If they have a job they pay payroll taxes, and often even income taxes (they might use fraudulent Social Security numbers). If they own property they pay property taxes, and if they rent they indirectly pay the taxes that are factored into their rent.
However, they do not receive the same benefits that legal taxpayers receive, such as Social Security.
#125 - fefe (02/09/2013) [-]
You fucking liberals are the problem with this country. You're destroying it. We need to keep America American.
If some illegal Mexican mows a lawn and gets 100 dollars he pays no payroll or income tax.The fact that you mentioned that they use fraudulent SS numbers as an example... that is extremely illegal and a huge problem. The only way they can rent an apartment is if they use fake identification or the person who's renting to them is breaking the law. They should not receive the same benefits that legal taxpayers receive and i'm glad they don't.
#127 - Ruspanic (02/10/2013) [-]
Oh, boy, here we go.
First of all, I'm not a liberal. I was simply informing you that you're wrong, and that illegal immigrants do usually pay taxes.
No, they shouldn't be in the country illegally, nor should they be receiving benefits or voting or using fake SS numbers, etc. But that doesn't mean you have to pretend they're worthless or lazy or evil, or that they contribute nothing or that they're foreign invaders or that they're trying to undermine America or some similar bullshit.
"Keep America American" is a meaningless and vaguely racist slogan that appeals to people who think American is something other than a nationality, the sort of people who believe in "purity" and thing there's such thing as a "true American". What the fuck does that even mean?
#130 - fefe (02/10/2013) [-]
Your views sure as hell sound like the usual liberal dribble... I'm not pretending like they're worthless, lazy, and evil. They are. They are destroying this country. When they can't find steady pay, they often resort to crime. Most gangs are filled with minorities, very few whites are in gangs. Only the KKK and other white supremacist groups are white gangs. But the other minority gangs way out number the white gangs and the numbers of member do too. The few that actually do something useful doesn't out way the other criminals. It's not worth it. And the few illegal immigrants who do something useful are just taking the job away from an actual legal citizen. They are also invaders, they're basically the definition; To intrude upon. They are a plague on this country and needs to be dealt with swiftly. If you want to come here so badly, then do it the right way. If you're not willing to do it the right way, you obviously are just looking for the easiest way and don't want to be here that badly. If you go through the proper process, I will openly invite you into this country as an American. I'd welcome you with open arms. Give you a fucking fruit basket or some shit, I don't know.
#132 - Ruspanic (02/10/2013) [-]
Look, I agree with you that people should come to this country legally and stay here legally, if they're going to stay. And the shouldn't forge their documents. No shit.
But the illegality of their presence here does not necessarily make them less productive. It also doesn't make them evil. They didn't come here because they are malicious, they came here looking for jobs and opportunities that they couldn't get in their home country, in order to support themselves and their families.
Your bit about gangs is a different matter entirely, as most gangs are not made up of illegal immigrants (although I guess it depends on where you live). The reasons for the racial disparities in crime and poverty is a complex discussion that has little or nothing to do with inherent racial characteristics and more with the cycle of poverty, the aftermath of segregation, the development of racial subcultures, drugs and the drug war, welfare, etc.

"In the situation you named I expect the kid to see all this around him and say "damn... I want to get the hell out of here ASAP!" and focus more on school so he can get out... if he knows that this cycle of poverty exists it's all the more reason to break it."
First of all, even if he does manage to graduate, the school did not equip him with sufficient skills to be a valuable worker or even to attend a decent college. He might come out without adequate math skills or even full literacy, and it's very difficult for someone like that to find a well-paying job. In many cities, minimum wage doesn't even cover half the rent of a small apartment.
What often happens in the worst ghettos is people simply do not plan for the future, because they do not expect to live long enough for it to matter. For that reason many of them start using drugs as an escape, which obviously makes things worse.
And then all this delinquency and despair and violence and drug use integrates itself into the culture of the neighborhood, and as it becomes increasingly normal it also becomes harder to resist.
And then when you have kids, your kids will likely go through the same things and have the same problems, and in the long run it gets worse and worse.
I go to college in Baltimore, and this exact thing actually happens in West Baltimore and other neighborhoods in the city. The reason for the racial correlation here is largely because the city used to be heavily segregated, and the de jure and de facto disadvantaged black neighborhoods became the ghettos that exist today, post-segregation. And it got even worse as the middle-class black people did just what you said and moved out of the city, taking their skills with them.
There's also something called social identity theory, which is why races tend to form cohesive groups based simply on shared ancestry and appearance.

"There are people here who want to support their families as well but can't because of illegal immigrants"
Really? Do you have evidence that this happens?
By hiring cheap labor, private businesses are able to lower costs and therefore increase profit. With higher profits, they can afford to lower prices and also to expand and therefore create even more jobs while increasing production. Since illegal immigrants are usually low-skilled and have limited English proficiency, they aren't suitable for every position and are usually used for manual-labor type jobs, while low-skilled Americans are pushed toward jobs like cashiers or waiters which require more communication. It's not strictly a "stealing our jobs" scenario.
I'll also point out that the jobs were not yours to begin with. You're not entitled to be hired, and private businesses don't owe you anything.
"Yes it doesn't show causation 100% of the time, but the majority of the time it does. Almost every time practically. So much so in fact that the chance that it doesn't is basically dismissible entirely."
Not only is this logically fallacious, it is also incorrect.
Suppose you read this stat:
"In homes with guns, the homicide of a household member is almost 3 times more likely to occur than in homes without guns."
That implies that having a gun makes you more likely to be murdered. But maybe those gun owners have guns because they live somewhere where they're more likely to be murdered. How can you tell from the statistic alone?
"I will not research those factors at all, i'm going to focus on the undeniable math and statistics and facts"
Then frankly you are an idiot and your research is worthless. You're not trying to observe reality or discover anything, you're trying to validate your own opinion. The fact that black Americans commit a disproportionate number of crimes does not tell you why that is the case, and that is insufficient data to form a conclusion.

There are people here who want to support their families as well but can't because of illegal immigrants. I have absolutely no sympathy for them what so ever. The thesis is if there is racial predisposition to crime, which there is, and I will prove it. Like you said, it'll discuss whether there are certain races that are inherently prone to crime. which there are. That statement that EVERYBODY uses is so fucking stupid. Yes it doesn't show causation 100% of the time, but the majority of the time it does. Almost every time practically. So much so in fact that the chance that it doesn't is basically dismissible entirely. I will not research those factors at all, i'm going to focus on the undeniable math and statistics and facts. I have the statistics behind my claim. They are all excuses anyway. In the situation you named I expect the kid to see all this around him and say "damn... I want to get the hell out of here ASAP!" and focus more on school so he can get out... if he knows that this cycle of poverty exists it's all the more reason to break it.

Reached the reply limit here as well.
"Fixing their own country" is much easier said than done, and it's not something that the average family feels itself capable of doing. They don't set out to fix their country or ruin ours, they just want to support their families like the rest of us. Breaking the law shouldn't be the way to do it, but the motive warrants some sympathy.
What's the thesis of your paper? That certain races are inherently more prone to crime?
Correlation doesn't imply causation. Perhaps you should investigate some of those factors I mentioned earlier, instead of dismissing them as excuses.
It's all well and good to preach personal responsibility, but people aren't islands and our will isn't purely free. We are susceptible to outside influences and act accordingly.
If you live in a poor inner-city neighborhood, attend a low-performing and underfunded school, and are constantly surrounded by gangs and drug users - all through no fault of your own - do you think you're likely to go on and become a successful entrepreneur or something?
#136 - fefe (02/10/2013) [-]
They should try to fix their own country and not make ours worse. Like I said, the bad aspects of illegal immigrants far out way the good and it's just not worth it. We have our own people, legal citizens, who want to feed and support their families but can't because of Jose over there. And in my criminology class in college we talked about all these different reasons why more minorities join gangs and all I hear is excuses... Honestly. All they ever talk about is excuses as to why they are criminals. I'm actually writing my end of the year research paper on racial predisposition to crime. I have all my statistics and facts and shit. gonna be a fun paper to write.

That's a valid point most of the time, but sometimes you go to places because family members, etc, want to go somewhere warm... If you're like me, and get sunburned very easily, there's not that many things to do, except to read.
I'm Norwegian, so of course we have a cabin by the sea. You can only go fishing and swimming so often, and I usually end up bringing at least two books, just for a week.
