Probably the most obvious thing -- it's about "intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes". The neverending farce and masquerade of jet set.

It's also "Hip to be square", and that's why everyone tries their best to be friendly and politically correct. You have to act this way, if you want to stay in this Club, where people wear top-notch custom tailored suits, and have state-of-art business cards. Even if your moral compass points the other way.

But the cognitive dissonance between "Wall Street Bateman" and the real one inevitably leads to his mental breakdown -- it's a common thing to get psychosis from acting different on public.

Well at least this is how I understood this movie. And from that perspective 'American Psycho' didn't lost it's actuality not one bit.

But then what was the moral or theme of the movie? Is it just "Look at how crazy this pretty wealthy guy is."

Hey, man. How are you doing?

If you don't remember, I'm the guy who made the fundraiser for my dog. I was just stopping by to thank you once again for your generosity and to let you know that Moose is doing extremely well and he gets his wires out next week.
