But if you're not eating chicken - or any meat, for that matter - based on moral grounds, consider this: billions of chickens are slaughtered yearly in the United States only for food consumption. You aren't stopping, slowing down, leaving a mark, or even touching the process. It would take millions of people to stop eating meat for the mass slaughter of livestock to even slow down.

One could argue that deciding your actions based on how tiny and insignificant they are, is a huge fallacy (i dont know the name but it's a mistake nonetheless) and an extremely stupid way to debate morality. Some people find that our food industry is just cruel, and refuses to take part of it and instead eat something else to complete their diet. They're doing what they think is right and something that will be necessary in the future, and you shouldn't put them down for that. I myself am often tempted to eat less meat (i only really love choice pieces of meat - like chicken) and then only buy from proper farms and shit. Yours and holymackarel's comments bothered me

You're right and wrong.
It depends on the scale. There are solutions to large problems where refusing to take a part in them would contribute (even a little bit) to the solution - but those are typically charitable things. I donate to charity frequently - whenever there's a stand set up outside the grocery store, I toss a few dollars in. Are my few dollars going to solve the problem? No. But they help to fix the problem.
But for things like refusing to eat meat? Definitely not. For every person who stops eating meat, there are more people who are going to eat meat. A million people could stop eating meat, but that wouldn't save the lives of a million chicken, cows, or pigs. The numbers aren't going to be affected, at all. Especially with the rate of birth around the world, the number of slaughtered animals is only going to go up.
In terms of morality, I see it this way:
If it contributes to the problem, don't do it.
If it contributes to stopping the problem, do it.
If it doesn't contribute to stopping the problem, there's no sense in doing it.

You're right and wrong as well. Whether or not not eating meat helps on the problem is quite up to debate, and i think the question is more about 'how much do you want to change your habits for how little or much gain?' People are going to have different opinions about that. One could pull up an array of changes in personal life that has a variety of slight positive effects. The more who agrees with the hypothetical vegetarian, the less will eat meat, and the more effect it'll have on the problem. If no one is willing to stand alone and say 'this could help on the problem and i will do it', then no one will, and nothing will happen.
All of this is excluding the annoying vegetarians who wishes to berate people for not following so, and any experiment showing that vegetarians are less likely to do good deeds because they think they've done their part by not eating meat. This is more about doing what you think is right and beneficial, even if you stand alone. Don't let your morals be determined as such. We'll have problem keeping up meat production for all of us anyway; they're ahead of their time in that sense. And the more problem we have with meat production, the more cruel the conditions of the animals, and the more i will think 'you know i'm starting to feel kind of bad for partaking in this quite terrible everything - i think i can substitute meat with something else, i just want it to stop'
