=/ Being a squad leader's the same responsibility that's expected of everybody, it just means that you take care of yourself enough to take care of others.

Don't be a skating shitbag, step up to the plate. If you take charge and get shit done, you might come out as a Pfc instead of just a Private.

Yeah, I know. I don't think I'd try squad leader off the bat, but Ihave considered doing it in like phase two.

Oh, and uh, if you get picked as a squad leader or guide early on, you're going to get replaced if you aren't such hot-shit that it burns to touch you, because it's their sop to switch people out and gauge leadership skills of more than just three or four recruits. If you want to live the good life, though, volunteer first thing to be the whiskey locker recruit: you'll get access to all kinds of goodies.

Yeah, it's all right. Just remember the creed "be excellent to each other." They shove Honor, Courage, Commitment and JJDIDTIEBUCKLE down your throat, but people still fuck one another over.
One piece of advice I learned as a civilian: when you're bar-hopping, don't wear a shirt that denotes you have anything to do with the Corps, because instead of attracting ladies you'll get pulled into boring political conversations and have a thousand insincere thankyous. When you and your buddies go out to get laid when you get to the fleet, making it obvious you're a Marine is the number one way to go home empty-handed.
Oh, and hold your piss in during bootcamp, don't be one of those recruits that everybody else tells stories about for the rest of their lives because he pissed his pants on a hump.
