I'm not trying to prove anything. I'm saying there aren't many choices: You go to school or you get to work. And I don't think those are in anyway esoteric possibilities to anyone. I think many people even today are aware university is not for everyone or they might even see it as useful. And I don't think that's hidden away in any way. I don't see how people are being kept in the dark as to their choices, and I don't see how there are many more other than school or work. I just don't see it.

And I agree that high school places way too much value on academics, by design, yes. But I do think it places a disproportional value on the path of academia over many other, equally needed skills.

Not too many untapped markets nowadays.
User avatar #341615 - cycloneclone (15 hours ago) [-]
No, not really. Theres always room for competition, especially if you have the drive to do it. Plus many people start business and discover niche markets that hasn't been explored yet.
It could be an actual store (selling trinkets or whatever_, service (like landscaping or lawnmowing) , or something online.

I consider a trade school basically a different type of college. And I consider all the others part of the work force. Plus, I don't think anyone is unaware of those. I think maybe they see them as unreliable, but they must definitely be aware of them.

User avatar #341503 - semenslurpinglily (18 hours ago) [-]
Honestly I was born 1996, but in an underdeveloped country, so I did grow up with a walkman.
User avatar #341524 - thesoulless (17 hours ago) [-]
I was born in 96 as well, but it seems like I went straight from a tape player to this little ~$15 mp3 that lasted me a few years until the buttons gave out. For some reason I only ever used a walkman once or twice.
User avatar #341501 - freedomreturns (18 hours ago) [-]
I was born in 94, and I listened to plenty of tapes, decades last longer when you're poor.
User avatar #341516 - thesoulless (17 hours ago) [-]
I was born in 1996 and I had tapes as well that I listened to until I was at least 10, at which point my player broke and we couldn't find a new one. Maybe it's just me, but it always seemed to me that everything kinda skipped straight from tapes to mp3. My dad had a walkman that I used a few times, and there were cds around for as long as I can remember, and we have stationary cd players and stuff, of course. Maybe the walkman just became outdated so quickly that I didn't really get much chance to experience it.
User avatar #341519 - freedomreturns (17 hours ago) [-]
CDs destroyed the walkman. I do remember the transition to mp3s though.
User avatar #341520 - thesoulless (17 hours ago) [-]
We are talking about the same thing, right? The little single disc cd player that you carry around with you?
User avatar #341523 - freedomreturns (17 hours ago) [-]
Yes and I remember people trying to put them in their pockets which always looked hilarious. My sister got to have one, but I didn't get one till 8th grade.
User avatar #341542 - thesoulless (17 hours ago) [-]
The one that my dad had was more or less just a circle with buttons, so it wouldn't even ft in my pocket, so it was super inconvenient.
