For real tho, Unity made a shitload of improvements to the series after the launch bugs were fixed . They reintroduced some kind of difficulty as in I was very much able to be killed, unlike in AC 3 where you're a fucking god , and they removed the leash from many mission types as in you are no longer restricted to one way of completing assassinations and other things . If the next AC makes as many improvements as Unity did, I might actually get back into the games again.

For me, Unity took a couple steps forward and a couple of steps back.
I thought the story was absolutely atrocious for an Assassin's Creed game, the worst since AC3.
Let's ignore the microtransactions, the chests and the phone App, as I think Ubisoft learned their lesson about that shit and won't attempt it in the next game. Or at least I fucking hope so
The freerunning/parkour finally got upgraded. Having a button to choose between ascending and descending made things immensely better.
The combat difficulty was upped.
The skills you could upgrade were great too, since it meant that you could choose whether you wanted to go sneeki breeki or just frontal assault. Needing lockpicks for chests and doors is a good thing.
I never thought I'd have to list something like this as a bad thing, but the city is too big for a game with no means of alternative transportation.
Multiple routes for assassination missions are a good thing! Just not in the way that Unity did it. I don't want to be FORCEFED the multiple ways for me to complete a mission. Let me scour the surroundings for myself, let ME look for the clues. It just felt like needless handholding.
Eagle Vision was OP in this game.
The side mission structure was great for once. I still think it could've been interwoven better with the history of the era, though.
Helix points were a terrible mistake, one I hope they don't make again. Do away with the ingame "cheat shop".
Helix Rifts didn't really serve that much of a purpose and felt like a last minute addition to make the trailer look better.
Ever since the second AC game, they have been doing the whole "collect rare item, so you can unlock ancient armor" thing. It really needs to stop.
I'm sure I could list more, but these were just some of the ups and downs of Unity.

I haven't played Black Flag yet (though I really wanted to). But it still has the same issues from what I know in terms of guards and shit being laughably easy to go through, like in AC 3. But then again, if you were playing AC4 for anything other than the naval battles, you were doing shit wrong

Half the game is fighting boats, which is actually pretty fun since it isnt particularity easy to sink some ships, and they will always gang up on you. When boarding enemy ships I have actually noticed that the AI is way more aggressive. But when doing stuff on land i would just sound the alarm all the time instead of being sneaky cause its like 10 times easier. Enemies will always engage at no more than three at a time even if there are more than 10 surrounding you. As long as you kill the sniper tower dudes you can survive waves of enemies.

Well yea that just reinforces the "you play AC4 for the naval fights" thing.
I think Ubisoft should just take it further and make a separate game even more about the ships and shit. Maybe like some kind of Pirates of the Carribean Online minus the shittiness and thus maybe not an MMO
