Ok so, I hated it. Could not get past the first volume. I found it way 7edgy19me. I just found Frank COMPLETELY unlikeable literally not 1 redeeming value, and just didn't get the appeal. Is there something that I am missing when reading this, like this isn't for me, or is the beginning saga just a weak point? I really would like your input.

It just depends on your interests, old top.

What you call edgy, others call gritty, because he lives in a gritty and bleak world. Some people like The Punisher as a character and hero, and others don't. If that's not your cup of tea, that's perfectly fine.

I guess my biggest problem wasn't the egdiness or the gritty nature, but how much of a hypocrite the Punisher is. During the Mobster funeral when he ambushes them with a car bomb, the bomb CLEARY winds up getting a kid (and possibly other bystanders killed as collateral. That is what i didn't get. He is clearly no better than the people he is "punishing" and is causing the same damage that made him so "righteous". So i guess my actual question is, is the punisher supposed to be a dark parody of the Vigilante type hero, or were the writers just stupid there?

A bit of both. He's supposed to be the type of 'real' vigilante that goes around rather than heroes such as Batman who just beat them up and lock them up. He's SUPPOSED to show the gritty and brutal nature of the whole business. He also makes a point to NOT hurt 'anyone who doesn't deserve it' (which he usually does a good job at). When he does not, such as when he kills the mother of a rapist, the child, or a boat full of businessmen, it is under the assumption that by being there/raised in that life, they would support it anyways, thus it is all well and good to off them.

The Punisher doesn't justify himself anyways and is fully aware that he's not making the world better. He later explains that he doesn't do what he does in order to 'make the world a better place', because other gangsters just take up the spaces he puts, but just so the people he kills KNOW that they were killed because of the choices they made and that they were bad people.
