Well, I was in fact taking a stab at humour, which seems to have failed. That said, I actually agree with you. However, where we differ may be in the definition of success. Now, I'm not saying that yours is different, just that mine is somewhat uncommon in these parts, so I'm not expecting it. I define success not as convincing my opponent that they are wrong, but in providing a cohesive and correct informal debate structure that will prevent my opponent from misleading unwary lurkers.

i like your definition of success and i also got your (rather clever) joke.
my reason to discuss things is not to convince others of my opinion, but for them to "enjoy" (to put it like that) a point of view they might not have thought about.
#8 - if you use the right arguments however, you occasionally succeed.  [+] (4 replies) 05/06/2012 on Arguing with FJ +3

I disagree, good sir. For example, if we were to debate on the subject right now, nothing you could say would convince me otherwise, thus making this a self-fulfilling claim.

Also, examples are shopped or fake.

true, discussions are often just conversations in which people only listen to themselves.
so in order for any discussion to change any opinion both sides are required to be polite and sensible towards one another, if not it'll end up in shouting "NO UR WRONG".

if as you said, you wouldn't change your mind regardless of what i told you, i wouldn't be able to and vice verse. if we're however trying to work something out instead of trying to prove each other wrong we wouldn't.
