It's just people saving things they see from other sites and posting them on other sites they frequent, really. I've seen a lot of the OC comic makers on here have their comics put on other sites, so it works pretty much both ways.

to be honest, after 4 years of browsing, I've gotten used to it *shrug*

well, I've been browsing FJ for quite a while and only recently started browsing imgur. I'm not trying to say that either is more prone to copying than the other, just acknowledging that it happens quite frequently. my original comment wasn't intended to be a revelation for anyone, just a sudden realization for myself that I wanted to put into words because I had nothing better to do with my time.

But the whole purpose of websites like imgur, reddit, tumblr, FJ, ect is for people to share things they want to share, you'd have your work cut out for you if you tried to find even a single website that had exclusively site original content.

It's been happening for several years, and it's complained about on a daily basis by 70% of the FJ commentors, so yeah, maybe it should be a bit obvious by now.

well then the real question should be: if one person posts to imgur, is it the same person who posts the same image to FJ (or vise-versa) or is it someone copying someone elses stuff and posting it elsewhere?

Well yeah, that's why they're called image sharing websites.
That should be pretty obvious by now.

image sharing websites are to share images on that site to the users of that site, or that is the original interpretation of it. was not meant for cross site. so not so obvious when viewed from that angle.
