I have no idea what that extremespeed thing is supposed to mean.

All I know is that when I bought my Pokemon X, I thought I would have a fun journey trying to collect all the pokemon and trading with my friend who bought Y.

When I finished the game, I found out that many of the pokemon can only be aquired from earlier pokemon games and/or can only be traded to from people who got the limited edition ones.

ExtremeSpeed = Stronger Quick Attack

Some Pokemon were given away/events where they were normal but have a move they wouldn't normally know. People can make them themselves with Egg Moves, but then there were others that are just downright impossible to get (Ex. a Pikachu knowing Surf)

Like CoolTrainer said, some games can only be obtained in an earlier Pokemon game, but you can be really sure someone has done so, and either bred/cloned them to make them more available.

Before X & Y, Mewtwo was only found in Red, Blue, & Yellow (and the remakes), and HeartGold & SoulSilver. There was no other way to get it in Generations 2-5. But you can be VERY sure that many people from other generations have/are trading it.

Celebi literally doesn't exist outside of an event in Japan for Pokemon Crystal and Pokemon Colosseum, and then given as another event in X & Y.

Jirachi is even harder, as there are literally only two ways to legitimately get one, first on the Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc (Pre-ordering Pokemon Colosseum), and in Europe, Pokemon Channel, both for GameCube. Good luck finding those two, they both came out before 2005, and you need one of those GBA-GC cables.

Well, some of the pokemon can't be earned anymore.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't see why anyone woud trade away a pokemon that you can't get any longer for something that you can get by playing the game.

The thing is though that even if the pokemon is really rare it can be duplicated either by breeding or cloning so they inevitably get out. Theres always gonna be some pokemon that are really hard to trade for but people always want to trade. When d/p first came out I got a zigzagoon that knew extremespeed for a starter that someone was missing. You used to only be able to get that from XD/Colosseum.

You could trade them over from Pokemon: Colloseum, along with plenty of gen 2 Pokemon including a level 70 ho-oh.
