It wasn't abandoned by your government, you had a leader change and those leaders wanted to go in a different direction. They were critical of it before they even became your leaders. Look up SAGE, George Pearkes, John Deifenbaker, and the 1957 NORAD agreement. We WANTED you to have jets to aid in our own defense, but we also wanted you to engage in BOMARC, which your government could not ably afford. You had to scrap one or the other, and you scrapped the jets because Pearkes was against the budgetary constraints. It was even a part of his campaign prior to being elected. Your choice.

ive been researching this a lot since i seen this post and the most evidence is pointed towards it being dropped because of price (which of course is also the easiest lie politicians would make in an election) and because of the change in government like you mentioned. although rumors are still around and will never be satisfied because there is no way to know what was said in the meeting for purchase of arrow and norad agreements. i dont want to admit im wrong here but i may be. they argue that the plans were destroyed because of possible Russian spies and that the usa wanted the canadian airforce's help. but still why destroy the jets that were already built, use them or sell them even at half cost is better then scrap metal. i will not be so loose with my words in blaming the usa for the fall of the arrow. but i will not fully believe that they didnt pressure canada to destroy it. because it is sensible that they would not want to have to worry about canada becoming a military super power to worry about in the future.

We had very little to do with the Arrow being mothballed, your own government mothballed it and many other military and public use projects like the Ferranti Canada Postal PC system.

well, first off lets make it clear that i dont have any valid proof the usa had a lot to do with the collapse of the arrow. and you dont have an valid proof that they didnt.
but everyone i talk to has the same story about the avro arrow, anyone who is even remotely interested in it say the same thing. and if it was just abandoned it by our own government then it doesnt make any sense that we would have destroyed all the ones already built, and even had to destroy all the blueprints to them. the americans also took information about the arrow and used it to improve there own aircraft.
but you are right the canadian government was the end all decision to do what they did. but it was much thanks to the usa pressuring and threatening. (apparently suggesting things like having a military power next to them meant that canada couldn't be trusted as allies.)
