Don't drive on crosswalks
nice profile picture
These are official road markings approved by the city -
I've never heard of "standard paint" being used for crosswalks. Maybe you can explain what gives it away in these grainy photos?
I think explaining this to YOU, a Person with a Name like sciencedebunk, who thinks he can debunk science while not even knowing this is a lost case.
> From the picture the color is far too thin to be any kind of sepcial street Color.
Looks identical to the other road markings to me. Also, they're pressure washing Tremclad rust paint off the other "standard paint". Must be a magic pressure washer.
Please explain. My low-resolution paint identification qual is next week and if I fail they'll take away my scientist license.
name one roadway marking that uses purple paint.
The fact that the city OKed it means that they had it up to their code. That's how cities function. With things up to code.
So they purchased purple paint. It's a strong, industrial-grade paint. They make it in vats of any standard color.
they're good quality paints
pic related it's the paints
You have waaaaay too much faith in the bureaucracy of cities.
I highly doubt they would have spent the money to develop a new wear resistant paint, let alone two or three (Pink, Orange) just for some stupid sidewalk.
Wasn't city money, it was money from one of the local pride groups, so they don't have qualms about spending it.
And my point was that I'm fairly certain that this isn't a type of paint solely used for roads, but for anything which wants strong, long lasting paint- so it was already going to be available in purple
The paint is a base---just add colorant of your choice...no need to have prepared all the colors beforehand
I can see where you're coming from, but heavy duty =/= reflective. Roadway paint has to be reflective in order to be seen at night, and has to be applied by a large machine that heats the paint to like 200C, because its not really paint but rather a type of melted plastic that is sprayed like paint. Highly doubt that a pride group has 10K to spend on having a company specially make colors that will never be used for anything but these crosswalks.
So, gonna use this as a source-
It seems to be talking about a rainbow crosswalk in a different city, but I think it's a fair assumption that both cities would be using the same paint.
It states that the paint suggested is the highly resistant Methyl-Methacrylate paint, which is used by road marking companies because it's very durable.
We can assume that this paint was used because they've had to clean up graffiti with power washers, which ordinary paint most certainly wouldn't stand up to.
So I think it's a safe assumption that if it isn't the normal road paint, it's an equally durable road paint.
As for the cost($13,000-$18,000), that very much was paid by a pride group
Yeah, plastic paints, glad we're on the same page. Nice find with the money statistic!
Isn't it a bit absurd that the three city's groups have spent more than 40 grand on crosswalks, with thousands more in maintenance costs on the way?
I mean, if these idiots want to drain their on bank accounts on silly projects like these in order to push their agenda, so be it. A fool and their money are soon separated.
I don't think we are on the same page here.
Methyl-Methacrylate is the paint standardly used for traffic paint- meaning that they didn't develop a new paint, and that they didn't use a vastly different paint. So, the street paint apparently
come in all those fun colors already.
the pricing is pretty close to standard pricing for crosswalks, but yeah, I'll agree that this was a waste of money.
Still, if it brings some color into a community, don't consider it a bad waste.
Nah fam, we both right.
>It's NOT a standard paint color, which is why the price is so high, In Vancouver the ones they installed were around 20 grand. Normal crosswalks cost around $7 per square foot, meaning there is a pricing dependency based on the unusual colors.
>It IS a standard type of street paint, meaning that assholes are actually vandalizing these crosswalks, completely contradicting >>#48
From the picture the color is far too thin to be any kind of sepcial street Color.
Colors aside these might be more expensive than regular crosswalks as this fills the entire area of the walking space where as most crosswalks are those zebra crossing ones meaning they use far less because they'd only paint the white lines.
this is assuming all crosswalks are the same, which they seem to mostly be.
Ah, yeah, I was misunderstanding your point initially. I thought you were arguing that the paint was a weak paint that would wear off in a week, not that the color is the reason it's more costly
Why the fuck are people spending these amounts of money to play coloring book on roads instead of doing something constructive, like feeding and sheltering the homeless? Society sucks fucking ass.

This is where I ripped it from. I don't know if there are any shorter/singular song versions of it. Hope this helps
